Mamavation Monday

I feel like I’m starting this weight loss journey from the beginning…  This is not a good place to be considering how much progress I had made since I first started this lifestyle change in January.  I’m on medication right now that is affecting my weight, so the numbers are steadily going up while my energy levels are going down.  I know this is just a temporary set back so I’m trying not to get too upset about it but it’s difficult watching all of my progress disappear over night.

I will go into this week with the simple goal of not really trying to lose weight but simply trying to be active.  The good thing about knowing where I’ve been and where I can go is that I know what works for me.  I will continue going to the gym and walking a minimum of 3 miles on the treadmill.  I will also add weight training to my routine.  A few weeks back, during one of our Mamavation Monday chats, we talked to Amy Dixon and she talked about how important it is to mix things up with some weight training ~ not to bulk up but to shape up and enhance weight loss.  I just received Give Me Ten, her new exercise DVD, so I can’t wait to give that a try.

I’ve also slacked off on my water and fruit and veggie consumption, so I’m gonna have to adjust that too.  My goal will be 80 oz of water per day and a minimum of 7 servings of fruits and/or veggies per day.

As I’ve started transitioning from a sedentary to an active lifestyle, I’ve also started to consider the importance of what I put on my feet ~ those things carry a lot of weight over the course of a day (and over the course of a lifetime), so supportive footwear is vital.  Now, I have to admit I am not a running shoes kinda chick so unless I’m working out, they simply aren’t an option for me.  However, I do love myself some comfy cozy slippers!  So I proudly wear my Earth Footwear slippers around the house, that way I’m toning my calves, thighs and butt even when I’m not working out.  Earth Footwear will be celebrating their 40th anniversary on Thursday, 22 April (which also happens to be Earth Day) and to help celebrate they are giving away free pairs of Earth Footwear shoes through Mamavation.   For more information, go here.

To all the ladies who are applying to become the next Mamavation Moms, I just wanna say “good luck” and you have my support.  No matter how far you get in the campaign, I encourage you to join the sistahood.  We are here for you and having a support system helps out a lot.  Trust me.

So from the top…

Starting Weight ~ 159.8 lbs

Goal Weight ~ 140 lbs

Disclosure:  I did not receive any compensation for this post.  This post is my entry into the Mamavation Blogging Carnival that is being sponsored by Earth Footwear.

@Jessica Thank you, that means a lot to me. I really do appreciate it.

@Paige Knowing that I have a group of friends to encourage me has done wonders for me. I truly believe that having a support system is key in all things, whether losing weight or just trying to make it day~to~day.

Daenel, you are doing GREAT! I know how frustrating set-backs can be but your plans are solid and on-track with a healthy lifestyle, no matter what the medication is doing to make it feel like a set back. I am here to support you! You’re awesome! Keep up the good work.

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that things have been tough for you lately! I can completely understand your frustration! You have great goals that I know will help you feel better. Thank you for all your support! I think so highly of you!

Thank you, ladies. I so appreciate all the words of encouragement. I’m just happy that my vision has returned. Now to get everything else back on track. I’m not letting this deter me from my goal.

You really have to be gentle with yourself right now as you deal with the meds you are taking. Go through the motions in an active way with the diet and moving around. Try not to get upset or disappointed that your body is not changing the way you want. You are on some powerful stuff these days, but it will be worth it. You are a beautiful woman, every day.

Trying to be active sounds like a really good goal. It is so hard when outside forces come in to destroy what you’ve worked toward but I like that you are not letting that take you down. It sounds like you are on your way back on track. Have a great week!

It sounds like you are having a good perspective through it all Daenel…and I agree, the encouragement and support of others is what gets us through the challenging times! The increased fruits, veggies and water are great goals…some of my very same goals too! We ARE doing this and you will get there…step by step!

Thank you for stopping by and offering words of support and encouragement. I think tenacity has to be one of my strongest points, hahahaha, being a mom makes you strong and gives you the ability to push through even when you feel like throwing your hands up.

Hope that you’ll be able to be off the meds soon & good for you for not letting that stop you from moving forward if only mentally and not on the scale for the time being. Be proud of yourself for not just giving up :)

Your attitude is wonderful!! In spite of the disappointments, you’ve got a plan and you’re going to work it!

Hang in there – you’re doing great in spite of the obstacles!

I know all about the meds. It just sucks to be quite honest. Hopefully you won’t have to be on them for long. Have a great week and I am looking forward to getting to know you!

Thank you for your support, I honestly don’t know how I would have managed without the words of encouragement I’ve received from all of you. Like I said, I’m only viewing this as a temporary setback and not a permanent situation.

@TracyB I got them from HSN about 3 months ago ~ I just looked and I don’t see them anymore. But I did find them on Planetshoes.com (here’s the link http://www.planetshoes.com/itemmatrix.asp?groupcode=1917). Hope that helps.

@Stacey I’m so happy that you are applying to be a Mamavation Mom and I’m glad that my post is encouraging you. Having a support system really helps, I’m proud to be part of your network.

Your post is supporting my goals and motivating me more than you know. I am also on medication that moving my scale up, I’m struggling with being more active, and my start and goal weights are very similar to yours. Looking forward to being part of your support system regardless if I become the next Mamavation Mom or not.

I hope your eye starts feeling better soon. I know you can deal with the water and veggies….you are always so determined to meet your goals!

What slippers do you have? I didn’t notice any slippers on the Earth Footwear site. I just love lounging around in my slippers in the house so these would be great for me.

I know you can do it! I’ll just have to yell at you to *cough*, I mean subtly suggest that you suck down more water! (If needed I can throw veggies into that suggestion.) *hugs*
