Well, I went through my reader last night and unfollowed a bunch. Much more manageable and blogs I actually like to read. Then, this morning, I got a comment from someone I unfollowed who is still following me. Ahh, the guilt! :)

Ugh! Jessica Anne, 900! Girl, that would have been enough to make me shut down the computer. LOL But I do understand. I always feel bad when I unfollow blogs too but I have to be realistic, reading every single post isn't practical.

Great post! I am really struggling with this right now. Especially the blogs I follow. I was gone this weekend and have 900! posts on my reader. It's just impossible, but I feel bad unfollowing people. Argh!

Alyna, that's pretty much what I'm doing. Cutting it down to 3 times a day and only for short periods. This weekend is different because I have a bit of free time but, yeah, online time will be regulated.

I realized it was out of control when I started checking my cell in the middle of the night to see if anyone responded to me on Twitter or Facebook. Yikes! I like the idea of hiding things too. That way I can keep my blogs but not feel the need to read each and every one of them every day. Good idea.

Smart girl! Shut Social Media down more often. It is a tool to be used and enjoyed, not a race to be kept up with. Maybe spend 20 minutes on it at the beginning, middle and end of the day? That way you are keeping up with things without being overwhelmed by it.

I completely identify with this!!! I find myself wanting to check Twitter/Facebook/etc constantly! But, I have hid almost everyone except close friends & family as far as updates go, so it's usually pretty quick & painless.

I use Google Reader to manage my blog subscriptions. I've got "Blog Watch" (about 20 of my can't-miss blogs), "Books", and "Hide". I'll often mark my "hide" blogs as read without feeling guilty this way - because it's so quick and easy to do! I guess it helps me keep my sanity! Now, to cut back on how often I'm checking everything... and not getting tempted to read my "hide" blogs...
