Day 10: I Want to be the First to Know

Problogger ChallengeI don’t know why I didn’t think of setting up alerts before.  Doh!  I used to get them all the time when I was blogging about my life as Queen of the Histolibrarianivists.  Speaking of which, I’m not certain why I stopped getting those alerts.  Hmmmm….

I liked receiving alerts for my library blog because it kept me abreast of what was going on in library land (even though I know a lot of people, sometimes things slipped through the cracks).  Again, not certain why it didn’t occur to me to set up alerts for this blog.

Anyway, I set up my alerts through Google News because I’m using a Droid and it loves Google.  I used the following keywords:

*Books

*Daenel

*Faith

*Libraries

*Living Outside the Stacks

*Motherhood

*Parenting

*Religion

*Vaughn~Tucker

I tried to use the keywords that pop up most often in my post tags.  I also set up a “Vanity Alert” so if anyone says something about me, I know about it.  That sounds slightly paranoid, huh?

So, it looks like I put a word in and Google News searches it. Then at the bottom of the page it allows me to set up an alert for that word. How do you not get overwhelmed with email alerts of every word you have? Then you have to surf through THOSE set of alerts. I could spend forever going through them. Then some don’t even apply to the word. Wow, this is a process! Thanks so much for contacting me to help me! You ROCK!

Thank you, Mimi, so glad I could help. It can all get so overwhelming. I don’t do everything in one day but I do see the benefits of setting up some of the alerts (like monitoring my online reputation, etc) but there’s no way in the world you can monitor everything and maintain your sanity. :-) I think if you focus on your blog and then read 2 or 3 other blogs every other day, you’re doing well.

Another great tip Daenel! I’ll have to check out the Problogger Challenge!

    Have a great day!

Hi Mary Ann, I’m learning so much from participating in the 31DBBB and from checking out various blogs. And I’m having a lot of fun in the process. :-)
