Loose Threads and Other Random Thoughts

Loose ThreadsHey, I’ve been sorta busy with Twitter lately, I’m participating in the Library Day in the Life Project this week so my life has been consumed by all things library.  If you’d like to find out what librarians do, you can read my post or view my pictures on Flickr or read through my Tweets.  Anyway, here are some random thoughts that have been floating around inside my head…

  • Yesterday one of the library patrons told me about a woman who bought a little over $200 worth of groceries for $8 using coupons and a store card.  What?!  That sorta money saving thing is like Big Foot, people know about it and some believe it exists but no one’s ever seen it with their own two eyes.  Do you use coupons?  What’s the trick? ‘Cause I never see coupons for anything my family uses.  But it’s my mission to get the hang of that couponing thing ~ I have 4 teenagers and a husband at home.  THEY EAT A LOT!
  • My son sent me a picture of a box that he made in his wood shop class for a girl that he likes.  I hope she appreciates it.  The box is beautiful.  I’m so proud of my boy but I’m also sad that he’s growing up.  I’m trying real hard not to be that mom but I really wanna go down to the school, corner Miss Missy and tell her she better not break my son’s heart.
  • I’m so tired of the cold.  We have been stuck between -9° and -11° for the past week.  Today it hit 30° and it was like a heatwave.  Students were walking around in fleece hoodies and sweatshirts….  There’s something wrong with that.
  • I learned my lesson about trying to be romantic with the husband today.  Because we work opposite schedules, I don’t really get to see him until the weekends, so I usually call him on my way to work just to chat for a few minutes.  Anyway, today I decided to serenade him with that Stevie Wonder classic “I Just Called to Say I Love You”.  So he answers the phone and I immediately start singing, he mumbles something and quickly hangs up.  I’m stunned.  How dare he ruin my romantic overtures?  About 30 minutes later he calls me and tells me that he was in the middle of a meeting and everyone heard me singing. Niiiice.

Hey sis! Hope you’ve been well!
Yes, I’m a coupon lady! I love em! I buy 2 double papers every Sunday, so I start out with 4 sets of everything and then I collect more from folks at work.
LMAO @ you serenading hubby! Super embarrassing, but too cute anyway!

Hey lady! I’m hangin’ in there ~ this weather! *smh* You know, a girl can only deal with the cold for so long…

Y’all are making me think there really is something to this couponing thing. Hmmmm…. Maybe I need to invest more time.

My husband told me he accidentally hit the speaker, he always says he’s been married to me long enough to know better than to put me on speaker on purpose. LOL

I clip coupons but I have never ever come out of a grocery store feeling like I just ripped them off. I cant even imagine what it would be like to get almost $300 worth of groceries for $8 I think I would have to at least do a happy dance. I’m happy when we manage to save between $30-$50 between coupons and sale prices.
I’m definitely tired of the cold we just got 18″ of snow last night which caused state and civil emergencies to be issued. All I can keep thinking is spring is just around the corner. Hopefully we can all survive mother natures fury.

I’d be happy dancing all over the place if I had that kind of skill. As it is when I get $1 a box of cereal I feel like I’ve made a good deal. LOL

Ugh! That just isn’t right ~ 18″ of snow. Come on. It’s just time for this madness to end.

I use Fred Meyer’s Sunday flyer coupons all of the time. They also give you .10 per gallon off their gas if you spend so much in their stores per month, and they send out these cash rebate things every few weeks, which are based on how much you’ve spent. Yeah, I’m a Freddie’s fan!!

Talking about kids growing up, my oldest is 16, and I well up just thinking about how little time I have left with him at home. :( Time really does fly. Dawn

Dawn, our Price Chopper gives you money off your gas too. I’ve earned a $1 off per gallon ~ that is a big help!

The kids grow up way too fast. It’s like one day they’re little people and the next they’re using you as an ATM and taxi. Crazy.

Wow – I save coupons, but hardly ever use them. I just tend to buy whatever’s cheapest rather than coupon brands. We mostly shop for groceries at Aldis, which I LOVE! We go every week or two, and tend to spend anywhere between $40-75 for a 1-2 week’s worth of groceries… that’s for 2 adults & a toddler… and with A LOT of healthy, fresh food.

And I’m totally with you on the weather! It’s pretty cold in Ohio, but when it “warms up” to 30 or so… yeah, ya feel like yo don’t even need a coat!

Lol @ accidentally serenading your hubby during a meeting! That’s too funny!

Lisa, isn’t that crazy? I don’t know how she did it. I’m like you, I tend to buy store brands or whatever happens to be on sale at the time. I’ve been to Aldi’s a few times, the first time was a shock ’cause no one told me I had to bring my own bags! :-) I grocery shop every two weeks with “filler trips” in between and I average about $290 on the major shopping trips (I have 4 teens and a husband). I need to figure something else out.

He said he accidentally hit the speaker button when he was trying to hang up the phone. He goes “I would NEVER purposely put you on speaker, I never know what you’re gonna say.” LOL
