I Have New Hair

I Have New HairWhen I was younger, nothing gave me more excitement than changing my hair.  One minute I was shaving one side bald and the next I was dying it black. And as an adult, nothing has changed.  My hair is still my greatest accessory.  Hair color can change my mood and my attitude almost as quickly as a new pair of shoes.  It’s truly a wonder I have any hair left considering how often I’ve dyed it, cut it, relaxed it, etc.

For a while now I’ve been trying to figure out what to do to make my hair different.  I’ve been some form of burgundy for a few months now and I desperately wanted a change.  I had tried putting a purple streak in my hair but it didn’t show up as well as I had hoped.  So my friend, Cheryl, a beautician, told me that she’d help me out.  So I made an appointment at her salon, Cheryl’s Touch, and had her add red streaks to my hair.  I decided against the purple because I thought it may be a little too much for me.  I’m so happy with my decision.  I love love love it!  I feel so bold and funky now.

What do you to change your look?  Do you cut your hair?  Dye it?  Experiment with makeup?

I have always used my hair as a accessory when I was younger. Once I made the decision to grow my first set of locs 15 years ago, things became a bit more permanent but I still have had fun styling my locs as they grew. Love the red and the fearlessness you display in change.

I love locs! And think they’re beautiful. I just change my mind too much to commit. I have friends who adorn them with shells, beads, headbands, etc and they just look so pretty.

    I’m a man.

I shave my head at least twice a week, I have for years. I don’t even go to a barbershop, I do it myself. I have much respect for women that take good care of their hair. It takes a lot of time, effort and money. I do so hate to see anyone who has a head of hair not take care of it. I take care of mine, by shaving it.

By the way, your hair is beautiful.

Hi Reggie, thank you for stopping by. I admire a guy who can shave his own head, I’ve tried during one of my I~need~a~change~right~now moments and it’s hard. People don’t realize that hair can age you or take years off, depending upon the condition and the style. Not taking care of your hair just says “I don’t care….”

Thank you, Lisa, I’m so glad that I had it done and that I had it done by a professional. Cheryl bleached it with a red bleach and then added the dye. She also fixed the parts that I had butchered during one of my chopping fests. LOL

I’m glad I’m not alone! There are days when I just can’t walk past the bathroom mirror without snipping some hair off! (Yes, I frequently start chopping at my own hair for no reason at all. haha) I used to dye my hair black as a teen until my mom convinced me it didn’t look good. Over the years, I’ve tried different cuts, highlighting… I’ve never completely dyed it a new color though, because that sounds like too much maintenance.

My hair naturally bleaches to an orange-ish color all on its own and if I leave it alone, it will eventually get blondish. But I don’t like going through the copper; hence the highlighting years. Lately I’ve been been dying it dark again (but not jet black!) because I don’t know what to do with it. I want a change; I just don’t know what…

Love your new color, by the way! :)

Girl, I have done that too ~ walked by the mirror and started chopping. I did it so often that I actually hid the scissors so I’d stop. LOL My hair bleaches too so when I’d try to go blonde it would get brassy, so finally decided to go with the red undertones and stick with red based colors. The only thing is that red fades very quickly but I do love the boldness. Maybe try something reddish in the front? Like a streak or something. Maybe a piece that you can hide under your natural color and then show when you want to be flashy?
