Mamavation Monday on Sunday

Mamavation MondayConfession time:  for the few days I haven’t done anything overly strenuous as far as exercising goes.  I worked out with a couple of DVDs and I did my normal walking (just upped it a tad so I felt like I was accomplishing something).  And my eating has been horrendous.  I’m back to fast food before I head off to work again after my evening shift at the library.  It’s just so darned convenient.  I’m not making excuses here, just stating the facts.

Like many people I kept saying “I’ll do better on Monday” or “I’ll start again tomorrow.”  Well, you know what?  Tomorrow isn’t promised…  I need to live my healthiest life from moment to moment.  No more waiting for tomorrow.

I’ve downloaded the Sparkpeople app to my Droid and I’m using it to track my meals and activities.  I was using Live Strong but I really prefer being able to use an app to plug in information rather than having to go to the website.   I have a case of water and have committed to a 2 for 1 ratio ~ for every 8 oz cup of coffee I drink, I have to drink 16 oz of water.  I drink a lot of coffee, so I think this ratio will help me.

As far as meals go, breakfast and lunch will continue to be my heaviest meals of the day with dinner being a salad and fruit or something along those lines.  There’s nothing worse than going to bed on a full stomach.

Yesterday I saw my gym membership fee come out of my checking account and realized that I’m wasting $10 a month, so it’s back to the gym I go.  I really enjoy using the treadmill, especially right now with the weather being all janky and everything.

My Stats:

  • Starting weight:  163.2 lbs
  • Today’s weight:  162 lbs (-1.2 lbs)
  • Goal weight:  145 lbs

BLOGGING CARNIVAL

This week’s blogging carnival is sponsored by Fit Studio.  One blogging carnival participant will receive a Fitness Basket with Weider PowerSwitch Adjustable 25 lb. Hand Weight65 cm Fitness Ball, and Sportline Elite Fitness Pedometer.  Answer the following question in your blog post and link back to the Fit Studio website.  Link up your post here to share with others.

Question: What motivates you to get going and what keeps you going?

Well, since my motivation has been lacking for the last few days I’d have to say nothing but what has put my butt in gear are 2 things:

  1. Seeing that $10 come out of my account and knowing it has been coming out for a year and I haven’t set foot in the gym in 10 months.  That a $100 that could have bought me a pair of shoes.
  2. Trying to squeeze my butt into my favorite jeans on Saturday night and realizing that no amount of wiggling was going to get them up over my hips.

Congrats on the weight loss!! I totally understand about the need to make things accessible for them to work. I have a droid also and have been using calorific the last few days. I like it a lot so far. Good luck getting to the gym this week. It is a great resource to have when the weather is so awful.

I know what you mean about fast food. It’s so darn cheap and easy! I hope you’ll find something that works for you soon. I think you’re on the right track though. :)

We have the same starting weight–163.2. Eerie, no? And I’m also having trouble getting back on track. For me, it’s not so much convenience food that’s causing me problems, it’s more stress eating. But you’ve lost weight already, so you’re clearly doing something right. :)

That is eerie. That stress eating is awful. I’ve been trying to keep gum and trail mix around for those moments. It doesn’t always work but it beats grabbing that 4th chocolate chip cookie, you know? But we’re gonna conquer this and be better, happier and healthier for it! :-)

Oh I love that facebook commenting plugin! What’s the name of that?

Oops – sorry – that was totally off topic! I love your motivation – money is a big one for me too, and seeing it go to waste is a big motivator. Perhaps you could track how much you spend on fast food too? I did that for a month once and was disgusted with myself.
Congrats on the loss! Those jeans will fit again in no time!

I had to log in to Facebook and create an app for it, the only thing I haven’t figured out is how to reply to comments… But it is pretty cool. I was kinda hoping that it would feed the comments to my Facebook profile too but so far it isn’t doing so.

I’m too afraid to track the money. I was stunned to find out that the Dunkaccino that I had the other day made up 45% of my allowable caloric intake. That’s so not cool.

Congratulations on your loss this week! I understand what you mean about fast food! When I lived in Buffalo, I lived kitty corner to a pizza place with delicious calzones and I found myself over there a lot because it was so convenient! I’m thankful now for living in the boonies (a village of 500 w/o any fast food places) because the temptation is just not there. It looks like you have a plan and I just know you can do this!

Thanks, I was surprised with the 1 lb loss ’cause I have not been on my best healthy living behavior but I’m fixing it now.

  • http://smallworldbiggirl.wordpress.com Laura @LoCiaravino

I wish fast food wasn’t so darn fast and convenient for meals! Or was at least healthy! I’ve started throwing breakfast bars or fruit in my bag to eat in the car on the way to work. It doesn’t always taste as good as fast food breakfast, but it’s a lot better for me. Sigh.

Ohh! 2:1 ratio. I never even thought of something like that. You’re a genius!

Is it wrong that my favorite part of the whole post is when you used the word ‘janky’? I love that word!
Good for you getting on with the tracking. It can totally make a difference!

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com Daenel

LOL I love that word too and look for any and every opportunity to use it!

Now that you have also invested in that app I hope you track like a madwoman since it cost you money. Have a better week sweetie. You can do it… onward to 145!

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com Daenel

Thank you, Kia. I used it today and was shocked to find out that my Dunkin Donuts Dunkaccino constituted 45% of my calorie allowance. That is crazy! Such an eye opener. Now I see why everyone says track your foods. Good grief! You know what I won’t be drinking anymore? Yup, Dunkaccinos.

A couple of years ago I went to my doctor for my first physical in a few years. He looked at my 6’1 frame that was carrying about 210 pounds and told me that I was borderline obese (I almost laughed) and that my blood sugar was so unhealthy that he would be doing me a disservice by not putting me on insulin. I laughed at the obese thing, but the blood sugar thing got my attention. Diabetes killed my father at 54 and his mother (my grandmother) when I was a college student.

I promised him that I would lose weight and eat more healthy. I said I’d stop eating so many steaks and burgers (by the way, my last two meals yesterday and today) and that I’d eat more grilled fish and chicken. I told him I’d walk and exercise regularly. Well….I did. It took about 4 months for me to drop 30 pounds through basic diet and exercise. I stopped grilling burgers and steaks and started grilling boneless chicken breasts and salmon (which I grilled today). I walked at least 3 miles a day, sometimes 20.

I now weigh 180ish, anything under 180 just looks like I’ve been in a famine. I’m healthier and the better for it. When I went to my next physical, he said the charts looked like they were two separate people.

I’m the first man to say that don’t nobody want a bone, but a dog….or……the only thing that a woman that weighs 100 pounds can do for me is to point to one that weighs 150, but I don’t want an unhealthy woman.

Diet and exercise are a way of life. I hate eating right and I despise exercising, but this weekend I did walk around 15 miles…….and I’ll be doing the same thing next week too. I don’t like it, but I’m gonna do it.

Reggie, that is exactly why I need to get my weight under control. My father (56 years old), grandmother and several of my great aunts died of diseases ranging from high blood pressure to various forms of cancer. Both of my parents’ relatives also have diabetes, heart disease and other illnesses. There’s also a prevalence of obesity on both sides of the family.

I haven’t hit obese territory yet but I can see it creeping up on me. And I know the older I get the harder it will be to control. Furthermore, I’ve already had cancer once, don’t want it again and I know that prevention (to an extent) comes from living a healthy and active lifestyle.

I can’t believe you walk up to 20 miles a day, that’s intense. I hope to get back to where I was last year ~ able to run/walk 5 miles without hyperventilating. Also your post about the morbidly obese totally scared the living daylights out of me and made me never want to eat again.

Thanks for commenting on my MM post. As for the egg cups… add whatever you want (pepper or other veggis are yummy), let them cool and then pop some in the fridge or freezer. I peel off the foil before I pop them in the microwave. They are a simple and fast breakfast veg/protein. Enjoy.

Andrea, thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I really appreciate the information. I’ll definitely be adding the egg cups to the morning rotation.

  • http://adventuresinallthingsfood.blogspot.com Andrea Kruse (@notimeMom)

I hope this week goes better for you. I know it is easy to fall back into old habits… they are comfortable. It takes much longer to set new ones, but oh so important. If not for weight loss, at least for your overall health. Moving is good, monetary motivation is great… just keep pushing. A few jacks or squats, etc. done throughout the day is something. Do what you can.

Thank you, Andrea, yep, it’s way too easy. My goal is to do just as you said, squeeze in little things because they make big changes, right?
