A Day in My Life in Pictures

The other day, I read a guest post on i heart faces by Jason Zimmerman about how to capture a day in your life using pictures.  I absolutely loved his pictures and decided to give it a try.  My pictures didn’t come out as great, interesting or fascinating as his did but it’s my life and I love it.  And um, capturing a day in your life in photographs is harder than I thought.

My Day in Pictures

I took over 100 pictures using my GE X500, a tripod and cell phone.  At the end of the day, I narrowed it down to 62 images.  Then I uploaded them to my computer and began the editing process.  Whew.  That took forever.  I cropped, rotated and changed everything to black and white using Picasa.  Like Zimmerman, I used black and white to make everything a little more cohesive.  I also used the “make a collage” tool on Picasa to create the collages.

My Day in Pictures

I ended up getting my family involved in my crazy and had the hubs take two of the pictures (the one of me at Verizon and the one of me at Taco Bell).  My kids had to deal with people looking at me like I’d lost my mind as I walked around snapping pictures of myself.

My Day in Pictures

Some things I learned from this challenge:

  • Having multiple cameras (at least one with a timer), a tripod and a remote (which I don’t have yet) are essential
  • You’ll need more pictures than you think but you’ll use much less than you took
  • Take pictures from different and unusual angles to keep things interesting
  • Unposed pictures and random moments like the dog running to greet you are the most fun
  • It’s better to use fewer big images than a lot of smaller images
  • Putting the pictures in black and white improves everything
  • You have to be shameless, people will stare at the crazy person taking multiple pictures of themselves

My Day in Pictures

I don’t know if I’d ever do this again but I certainly had fun accepting the challenge.

Have you ever taken pictures of yourself or your life throughout the day?  Was it a challenge?  Did you have fun?

Those were great creations, pretty got nice concept for editing. I’m actually noob in photo editing and I’m just learning the basic of photoshop. This inspires me to make my own day in life photo, but I wont do as good as this, maybe just close, hope so. Thanks for this!

I haven’t done this, but it seems like a lot of fun!  Love your collages :)

Thanks, Dweej.  It is fun but a lot of work.

What a fun idea! I’ve never done this, but I think it would be fun! What program do you use to edit your programs? I’m used to Photoshop, but am on the hunt for cheaper alternatives. :)

I use Picasa.  There’s a free version and a paid version.  I have both but I actually use the free one more than the paid one so I’ll probably let my membership run out.  You can do all sorts of edits in the free version:  colorization, frames, lenses, etc.

This looks like it took some time and great effort to do. I’ve always wanted to do a post like that but I’d definitely have to narrow is down to like 5-10 pictures .. at the most.. lol.

Nevertheless, it came out great, in my opinion. :)

Girl, right?  Yeah, I was driving everyone nuts with the whole camera thing.  If I ever do it again, I’m gonna have to work out a better plan than the one I had.  The kids were ready to run away.

Thank you.  It was fun but time consuming.
