Welcoming Another Tech Kid to the Family: iPad 2

My Shiny New iPad 2The hubs never ceases to amaze me.  Today I was sitting on the sofa, working on my notebook, when the hubs walked in and said “Stand up”.  Now, anyone who knows me, knows I immediately went in to “You don’t tell me what to do” mode.  I stood up anyway, but kept up a running commentary, until he leaned over kissed me and said “Thank you for being you.”  Then he presented me with a shiny new iPad 2.  Suh~weet.  I need to be amenable to moving a little more often.  And, um, perhaps a little less chatty.

I spent most of yesterday and last night get acquainted with the newest family member and I have to admit to being absolutely smitten.  Now there are a couple of minor things that I have to adjust to, such as using Safari instead of Google Chrome and one button control for just about everything.  Not hard things, just different.

Late last night, I spent a little time personalizing the built~in apps and downloading others.  My favorite built~ins are:

  • FaceTime ~ love being able to see the hub’s smiling face when we talk
  • iBooks ~ used it to download the manual (which I still haven’t read and probably won’t but I feel good seeing it on the shelf)

And I downloaded:

  • AllRecipes ~ cooking is a big hobby of mine, so having access to thousands of new recipes is priceless
  • Crossword ~ exercising the brain
  • Flipboard ~ seeing all my social apps in magazine form is kinda cool
  • HealthyRecipe ~ videos of people cooking healthy foods, what could be better?
  • Nook ~ lifelong learning, yo
  • Pandora ~ gots to have my music

So far the only mistake that I’ve made is while purchasing the cover.  Rather than go for something that would protect the screen, like the iPad Smart Cover, I chose to get something that only protects the back (sorta like an Otter Box).  I’ll have to fix that soon, I don’t want the screen to get damaged while it’s in my purse.

And, yes, I have named the iPad.  Her name is Inez.

Do you have an iPad?  What apps do you recommend?

I am reading this post through Flipboard! Love this App. I do have the first version. Kinda of want 2 for FaceTime..not happening! I use Twitbird app for Twitter. Most of my apps are kid friendly so I have nothing to offer on that front. I know I don’t use this thing to it’s capacity.

That Flipboard is crazy cool.  I’m trying to get everything on that thing now.  LOL  I’m gonna have to check out Twitbird (I still haven’t downloaded a Twitter app yet).  I’m still kind of intimidated by it.  Silly me.

Dweej, I’ve been incredibly blessed to have a generous husband. I really wasn’t expecting this gift.

I’m debating between the iPad and an Android tablet. I have a Macbook and ipod touch so an iPad would make sense but I have an Android phone and love Google products.I’m torn!

I’m an Android girl.  I hadn’t even talked about getting a tablet so I was surprised when the hubs came home with the iPad. Have you played with either of them?  I think there is a little bit of a learning curve when going from one platform to the other but you’re pretty tech savvy.

I’ve played with the iPad but don’t know anyone with an Android tablet. I may go to Best Buy to give them a try.
