Wrought Iron Gate

  1. How was your Thanksgiving? Mine was pretty good, we spent it with the parentals. My dad had knee replacement surgery a few weeks ago and is using a walker, this has provided endless amusement for me. Yesterday, I decorated it with ribbons and bells ~ you can check out the picture by clicking here.
  2. Last night, I heard a story on CNN about pastors who encourage their members to tweet during services and I thought Hmmmm, I dunno how I feel about this… I know some people tweet during conferences and things like that but tweeting during church? It annoys me to see people with their earpieces in during the services ~ Seriously, unless you’re getting direct calls from Heaven, why? So I don’t know how I’d feel about seeing folks tweeting on phones, tablets and notebooks during church. I guess it’s just a new way of reaching the masses and I can see how the outreach would be beneficial but I hope people aren’t using Twitter as a replacement for church.
  3. What is with these crazy kids going off to these Middle Eastern countries to go hiking or study abroad and then getting caught up in stuff? Stop going to those places, people, and then you don’t have to worry about getting arrested, beat up and bailed out by the American government. Wanna know if you belong there? Watch the news ~ if people are throwing molotov cocktails, stay your butt at home.
  4. I finally found the perfect pair of jeans. They have the perfect amount of stretch and the inseam allows for heels or flats. Y’all don’t know how hard it is to find a good pair of jeans and they didn’t cost an arm and a leg ($19.99). I bought ‘em down here in Mississippi, so yay for road trips.
  5. I’m in desperate need of a cup of coffee, so I’m off…

Tweeting in church?  Ewwww….  I was raised Catholic and I can imagine some nun bearing down on me with a yardstick if I DARED pull out a phone in church.

Stopping over from the NaBloPoMo blogroll.  :)

Hi, thanks for stopping by (I hope you see this so I can find out the name of your blog).

LOL at the mental image of the nun! We lived down the street from a convent, you are so right. It’s just wrong.

My daughter is a junior at the University of South Carolina and last year, she decided that next year she would study abroad in Japan.

Now that was before the tsunami.

Post tsunami Japan is still seeing elevated levels of radiation; and while they might not be high enough for Godzilla to come out of the Japan Sea, they’re too damned high for my good sense.  They’re just not too high for my daughter’s sense.  She still wants to go.  I understand that she took a couple of Japanese classes…….but that place still has a geiger counter bumping.  She won’t listen to me, she is dead determined on going.

I understand how they’d like to see other cultures.  I get how the world is smaller now than it’s ever been before and it’s getting smaller everyday because of this Internet………but I’m gonna kill someone before I let my child go to Japan.  I just need to know who I gotta kill to nix that study abroad thing.

      Reggie,

What is with these kids? We told ours that she can go to one of those countries if she wants to but if she gets caught up in something don’t expect us to be on TV making appeals for her release.  LOL I’m not even trying to hear that…

      PS
I studied Japanese many years ago…

My BIL uses the Bible app in his phone at church. I can’t stand that. Somethings just don’t need technology attached to them. UGH…I turn my phone off in church and I bring my old fashioned Bible. They can have that new millenium stuff. Tweet the message when you leave

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com DaenelT

I have used the Bible app in a pinch but, yeah, I hate it too. You’re right, some things just don’t belong in church. Pay attention to the preacher.

I don’t tweet, but I wanted to do a facebook status from church today.  They showed a video about thankfulness, and each little statement packed a wallop.

I can’t remember any now except, “Thankfulness is a commandment.”

I have checked in on Facebook at the beginning of services but I don’t play on my phone during services. It just seems disrespectful (although I have seen others do it).

The people who travel to foreign countries and get caught up in stuff somewhat annoy me. I would like to think that if one is going to live in a foreign country for quite some time, they would know and adhere to the rules.

I am don’t know about tweeting in church. I think some stuff should maintain some sort of reverence.

I just can’t imagine why folks go to those foreign countries without getting to know the culture first ~ we grew up in Italy (my dad was in the Air Force) but we knew enough not to involve ourselves in their political/social issues.

I must admit my hubs use to do that during services it pissed me off. It must be really bad when pastors are doing it. Have fun down in Mississippi it’s a nice city to explore

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com DaenelT

I just think some things should be off limits and tweeting during services is one of them.

      PS
We loved Mississippi, it’s so much different now that I’m an adult. LOL

  • Mrs. Pancakes

Thank you for stopping by… hope you enjoy my randomness. LOL

The tweeting in church just makes me shake my head…
