Touring Historic Mississippi

Columbus City SignWe’ve been spending the week with the parentals in Mississippi, which has been a lot of fun. We arrived on Wednesday and immediately slipped into a state of relaxation ~ like the hubs says, sometimes you really need to just get away from your life…

So this morning, he asked if I’d like to take a driving tour of the historic part of town since neither of us had ever been down that way. Of course, the history geek in me quickly agreed.

We drove through the city and came upon so many beautiful buildings ~ my dream is to one day live in one of those beautiful old plantation homes with the sweeping staircases, so I can slide glide down the banister and suck down mint juleps on the veranda.

In the shopping district, we saw all sorts of colorful buildings that just begged to be explored.

We drove down to the park and stumbled across this beautiful bridge that overlooked the most serene body of water.

Being there left the hubs in a contemplative mood…

My father’s family is from Mississippi.  I’ve spent a little time there myself.  As a matter of fact, earlier this year I had an opportunity to relocate to Jackson for a positiion with my company (though I declined it).

I like the south, I’ve lived here for most of my life and I plan on staying for the rest of my natural life………..that’s the plan anyway.

I like the thought in living in a place where grits are on the breakfast menu and sweet iced tea on the dinner menu.

I had grits and eggs for breakfast this morning… *rolls my eyes* Absolutely perfect.

I loved driving around Mississippi and just seeing the historic sites. My plan is to get back to New Orleans and take some pictures of my old stomping grounds… Really, there isn’t anything like the southern half of the U.S.

There are just such beautiful towns to visit in the South. My brother-in-law live in Alabama and I’ve only just started to visit some of the historic sites around where they live. I need to visit more often! And these pictures of Mississippi are just beautiful!

Ohhh, I know, right? Aren’t Southern towns lovely? I love driving around and looking at the old houses (I even snapped some pictures in front of them). They’re just gorgeous and full of history.

I love finding little towns like that…great photos (as usual).

My weekend?  I have not left the house except to throw the pumpkins in the vacant lot across the street, since Wednesday.  We didn’t even make it to church last night.  But all that ends today–sigh.  At least, a good thing, it starts with church!

Then I’m off to school to catch up for the week (as if)…

I’m glad you had time to veg, I think you’ve needed it…

Love that your week is beginning with church, that always makes things better.

Your pictures are lovely and I’m glad that you and your “hubs” got to get away together.  So special.

Thank you, it’s such a beautiful area and we had a lot of fun exploring.
