Ultimate Blog Party 2012

Hi, everyone! Welcome to Living Outside the Stacks, my little corner of the bloggy world. Let me tell you a little about myself…

My name is Daenel, pronounced Day~nell. I don’t know what my mother was thinking. I’ve been married for seventeen years and have five children and three grandchildren.  We have a dog named Squeekerz who would sell out the family for a slice of bread or a box of Girl Scout Cookies {Shortbreads}. I’ve been blogging since 2007 (!) and I’ve written about a variety of topics ~ librarianship, my family, my faith, crafting… In the last few months, I’ve gotten into photography.

I have mad crazy love for monkeys and an irrational fear of birds and cats.  It’s best not to delve too deeply into that but let’s just say the bird thing stems from living in Italy for several years and, um, cats jump ~ it freaks me out.

I enjoy kicking back with a cup of coffee and watching television when I have down time.  My favorite show is Scandal. Seriously, have you seen that show? Kerry Washington is working it all kinds of ways, right?  I also enjoy getting caught up in historical mysteries. Brad Meltzer, call me.

I invite you to look around and make yourself at home.  Feel free to look through my photo albums, listen to some music, grab a book from my library or just wander around my blog and leave some comment love.

I’d love to get to know you better, so please join me on Facebook {click here} or talk to me on Twitter {click here} and, just for fun, answer the question below:

WHAT IS YOUR THEME SONG?

Hi, Trish! Thanks for visiting. Hope you’re enjoying UBP12. Good times, right?

  • http://twitter.com/DrawingTheLine DrawingTheLine

I got here through UBP and followed you on Networked Blogs and Twitter. I am a reader too. I saw you were using LibraryThing which I love for cataloging my books, and Goodreads – I am doing the Reading Challenge this year. Keep up the good work.

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com DaenelT

Thank you for visiting. Love LibraryThing! I need to get back into the books, I’m seriously falling behind on the challenge. How’re you doing with it?

  • http://melody-mae.blogspot.com/ Melody

Well, here I am part of the UBP and who do I see? My sweet friend Daenel!!! Hi sweetie!

New Follower from the UBP#12 :) Love your broad range of topics and the thing about cats… Yeah.. I don’t like them either ;) Dogs are more my thing. My Oscar would probably trade us for a good piece of pizza or some cheese. LOL Looking forward to hearing more from you and hope you have a wonderful day.
Oh, My theme song… hmm.. maybe I will survive ?:) LOL

Hi, Jennifer! I’m so random, I can’t help it. LOL The hubs says this a good format for me ’cause I have a little bit of something to say about everything.

I’m definitely a dog person too. Cats and birds are just plain scary. The flying, the jumping…  My dog will not eat cheese. I think it’s hilarious when dogs go nuts over that stuff.

      And, yes, to the song!

  • GailBP

You sound like a fun blogger…love your mixture of writing topics. stopping by on my UBP tour. God bless you!

Hi to a fellow grandma – so fun to meet during this Ultimate Blog Party! :) I love praise and worship hymn songs and music best. If I had to pick just one song, it would probably be the one I sing my grandkids the most because it blesses me as much as them. It’s based on Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you be strong and courageous – and we learned it from a cute kids series I first got for my children and re-bought for my grandkids – GT And the Halo Express. :) Have a blessed week.

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com DaenelT

Hi Kaye, thank you for visiting. I’d have to say one of my favorite praise and worship songs is “Give Myself Away” ~ that song just does something to my heart. Thank you so much for stopping by, I’ll be visiting you soon. Have a blessed weekend.

  • MTereasa

Ok, don’t think I’m weird… You are beautiful! Your face reminds me so much of my daughter.  I wish I could show you a picture!

I love books… love ‘em.  I should have been a librarian.  Then again, I probably wouldn’t get much work done because I’d be smelling all the books and scanning the pages as I put them away. (Yes, I even like the smell of books.)

My theme song?  Hmm… I have too many.  I need a new one everyday. I guess if I had to pick one to follow me around, it would be Brown-Eyed Girl.  Then again, my children would probably say it’s Slow Down Sally because I’m always telling them to stop running in the house!

Just stopping in via UBP12.  Happy to meet you and looking forward to hearing more from you!

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com DaenelT

      Awwww thank you!

Being a librarian was by far one of my favorite jobs because it was so varied from day~to~day. One day, I’d do nothing but fix staplers and copiers and the next, I was helping some student write a research paper. Just really cool.

I used to play Brown~Eyed Girl for my daughter when she was a little girl. Even now when it comes on the radio, she laughs and she’s 18 now.

LOL at the Slow Down Sally. What is with kids and running in the house?

    Hey Daenel,

Haven’t seen Scandel yet, but am anxiously awaiting the return of Revenge. All the best shows this year seem to have one word titles. Have you noticed?

I found you through the UBP2012, and think I’ll stick around awhile. You have a great blog, even if you don’t like cats.

If you have time, come visit my place, Caterpickles, at http://caterpickles.com.

It’s not exactly about life outside the library, but the posts are often written in a library. I wonder if you’ll be able to tell which ones. :)

My blog started as an effort to answer the many many crazy questions
my Five-Year-Old asks as she explores the world around her. When I’m not
tracking down answers to her questions, I’m typing as fast as I can to document
the funny stuff The Five-Year-Old says and the moments in which my parenting
style totally breaks down. Lots of books get read and talked about too. Mostly
    on Thursdays.

Well, time to pop back to the carnival. See you around the blogs.

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com DaenelT

I never watched Revenge but that girl seemed pretty intense in the commercials. But, yeah, I did notice that about the all the shows too. And the day time talk shows are all called “The —-” (eg. The Chew, The Revolution, etc.). What is with that?

Cats are scary scary animals. LOL

Someone should write a drama set in a library… Those are crazy places.

Your blog sounds interesting and fun. Reading about little people and their antics makes me nostalgic for when my kids were babies. Teens are a little *insert crazy noise here*.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by and I’ll be seeing you around…

  • Alesha Kay

Hey Daenel.  It’s nice to “meet” you today.  I had to laugh with you on the recent “Bad Hair” post.  I’ve been trying to embrace my waves lately, and it is so HARD to find just the right product!

    I’ll be following you @Twitter.  I am @Obtaining Mercy

    In Him,
    Alesha Kay

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com DaenelT

Alesha, girl, you are so right. There are days when I just want to grab the clippers! LOL Oh. My. Word. It’s hard after dealing with straight hair for so long. And the products? There are just way too many. My eyes cross. Thank you so much for visiting.

      Have a blessed weekend!

  • Jen Steed

Gosh, you know, I haven’t had a theme song since high school — back then it was Someday I’ll Be Saturday Night by Bon Jovi.   I guess I’m pretty much Saturday Night, now so I’m still looking.

Just popping in to say hello from UBP.   Have a blessed weekend!!

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com DaenelT

LOL My head is like a radio station that flips with the static ~ there’s always some song that got me be~boppin’ around. And, yes, to anything by Bon Jovi. Remember when they were like the bad boys, now there songs are on the Adult Contemporary stations. *sigh*

  • Glenda Childers

So glad to meet your through the UBP. Happy party day.

  • http://www.refelctionsofasojourner.blogspot.com/ April

Hey! Thanks for stopping by my blog and for your encouraging comments! I never would have guessed that you have grandkids-you look too young for that! I totally mean that as a compliment.

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com DaenelT

Hi, April. Thank you. They’re my step~grandchildren but I’ve had my stepdaughter for over 17 years, so they’re just as much mine as if we shared blood. Thank you for visiting.

Yes, we would! Jesus is the tie that binds, the coffee and books are the fringe, right? Thank you for stopping by…

  • http://twitter.com/MrsCox MrsCox

So glad you’re partying! It’ll be fun! I’m obviously already a reader/fan girl of yours. You make me smile, you do! And I tried really hard not to snicker at the cat jumping thing. Really, I did. You would hate our cats, just sayin’… ;)

    • http://livingoutsidethestacks.com DaenelT

Girl, I don’t know which scares me more, birds or cats! They both freak me out… And don’t get me started on those eyes glowing in the dark! Eep!
