Losing Weight and Getting Healthy #7 {#Cinchspiration}

I have not exercised at all. Last week, our church was crazy busy and I was just making it home from work with enough time to shower, make dinner for the family and get out of the house, so that left little time for anything else. Confession: On days when I haven’t had time to cook, I’ve eaten fast food. This week will also be pretty busy, so I’m going to have to set my alarm a little earlier and get up to do something. Groan I am not a morning person, but I know if I want to see something happen I have to start doing things a bit differently.

#Cinchspiration Weight Loss

Weight Change Since Last Week:  +0.4 lbs

Total Weight Lost: 5 lbs

Goal Weight: 135 lbs

I am pretty happy to see that my slacking didn’t do that much damage, only a 0.4 lb weight gain. I can handle that. But I really want to start seeing the scale moving downwards again.  And getting this message from RunKeeper is a pretty powerful motivator, dontcha think?

Note from Runkeeper

With that in mind, this week, my goals are to:

  • workout daily
  • no matter how short I am on time, eat REAL food
  • increase my strength training
  • drink more water
  • eat more fruits and vegetables

To watch my story unfold, stay tuned as I blog, Facebookvlog, tweet and pin my inches lost. You can follow the Team Cinchspiration conversation on Twitter using #Cinchspiration. I’m also on Instagram, you can follow me here.

Yellow Wedges {Shoe Style Saturday}

Yellow Wedges {Shoe Style Saturday}

This was a pretty long week. I don’t know if I mentioned it here, but we’re in the process of trying to buy a new home and, lemme tell ya, the process is exhausting.

The hubs and I are a realtor’s dream, we know what we want, we find it and we get it. We accept that houses will have things wrong, even new homes, we call it “character”. We try not to nit pick, we talk about changing the things we can and dealing with what we can’t. It’s just that simple…

So this week has been dealing with the butterflies and dragonflies flittering in my stomach while we wait on inspections and appraisals and all the other little details. While it has been an emotional time, it hasn’t been nearly as stressful as it was the first time we bought a home 8 or 9 years ago. For that, I’m incredibly happy.

The plan is to close by 20 August, so, hopefully, on 21 August I’ll have pictures of our new home to post!

Where did your shoes take you this week?

To participate in Shoe Style Saturday, all you have to do is:

  • take a picture of your shoes
  • post them to your blog, flickr or tumblr
  • if you post to Twitter or Instagram, use the hashtag #ShoeStyleSat
  • leave a comment below letting me know you’re linking up
  • visit other participants and leave some comment love

So, come on and show me your femme fatale flats, those sexy stilettos and pin~up peep toes, yes, even your racy runners.

Things That Leave Me Scratchin’ My Head {Coffee Talk}

Coffee Talk1. That Penn State situation is just getting crazier and crazier. I’m wondering if they’re going to just call it a day and close the school down? Is there any way for them to recover from this? The NCAA has levied all kinds of fines against the school, students are transferring, lawsuits are being filed… In fact, the lawyers for the victim #2 have released an audio of Sandusky offering the guy tickets to the Penn State game if he wants them. Nice. Sandusky ends the call by saying “I love you.” I’m not a violent person but even I want to punch his teeth in. Seriously? His actions are so far removed from love that there is no name for it.

2. And while I’m talking about creepy, a Florida puppeteer was arrested for talking explicitly online to another man about wanting to kidnap, rape, kill and eat small children. What in the world? What’s even scarier is that parents said that he used to host pizza parties at his house and all the neighborhood kids would wait for him to get home. Here’s a big hint for all of you moms and dads out there: if a guy is hosting parties for kids and he doesn’t have any of his own, err on the side of caution and keep your kids at home. I will never, for the life of me, understand people who just let their kids go hang out with strangers.

3. I’ve been trying to avoid the whole Jackson family drama since, well, forever, but this week when Momma Kate went missing, even I became concerned. You know, these kids are in for a world of hurt. Their father went too a lot of extremes to keep them out of the public eye, now it seems as if that entire family is doing everything to keep them front and center, even if it means destroying them… Isn’t it enough that they saw what their childhoods did to Michael, do they really have to inflict the same insanity on the next generation of Jacksons?

4. A hotel in England is replacing copies of the bible with copies of Fifty Shades of Grey. Blank stare.

What had you scratching your head this week?

Giving Thanks for the Small Things {This or That Thursday}

Shopping Cart and Sunlight

Sometimes I get so caught up in the big picture that I miss the little things. For example, I took this picture using Instagram because I thought the light coming off the setting sun was just beautiful. In fact, I was so awestruck by the evening sky that I didn’t even notice the lone shopping cart until after I had posted the picture. And it made me think, how many times have I been so involved in the “big” things of life that I forget to give thanks for the “little” things?

Life has no guarantees, in fact, Psalm 103:15~16 says: “The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.” {NIV} There are so many people who woke up in happiness and are going to bed in sorrow because they’ve lost someone due to accident, tragedy or illness. Either way that person is gone and the time to say “I love you” will never be again.

If you read 1 Thessalonians 5:16~18, we are told to “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” {NIV}

Right now I need to give thanks to God for the “small” moments in life:

  • the sound of my children’s laughter as they tease each other
  • the hubs’ contented smile as he sits in his favorite chair and reads a book
  • mom and dad who offer emotional and spiritual support
  • my brothers and sisters, by blood and by choice, who make me laugh
  • my church family who push me out of my comfort zone on a weekly basis
  • our dog who greets me each and every day as if he hasn’t seen me in years
  • the blessings that are too numerous to count

Downstairs, there’s a sign on my wall that says “It’s the small moments that make our lives big.”

What do you take for granted? Are there little things that you miss because you’re grabbing at the big stuff?
