Hi! How’s it going? I’m doing well. The past few weeks have been a blur. I’ve been attending a variety of library related webinars. So very excited to share some of the things I learned with you guys. Seriously, you wouldn’t believe how relevant library work is to the world of blogging…

Anyway, one of the webinars I attended was hosted by Library Wardrobe and the American Library Association where we talked about how personal style affects people’s perceptions of librarians both inside and outside of the profession. Very interesting discussion, no?

One of the questions asked was do we go out of our way to look like anything but a librarian? Crazy cat lady with multiple cardigans and sensible shoes.  Is the trend towards hipster chic within the library just an extension of the stereotype?

I think the overwhelming conclusion was that despite the stereotypes, librarians are as diverse as the materials in our libraries and our styles reflect who we are as professionals and as individuals.

I like clothes and I absolutely love shoes, so that’s where I tend to express my creativity and individuality. I don’t think that I get viewed as less professional but it does get me a lot of “You don’t look like a librarian” comments. I’m not a business suit kind of lady and I don’t think that I could thrive in that type of environment.

This got me to thinking about moms and how people have a perception of moms as being dowdy and anything but trendy. Mom jeans, anyone?

So my question to you is do you go out of your way to not look like a mom? Do you notice that people treat you differently based on your fashion choices?

What I Wore Saturday

What I Wore Saturday {Living Outside the Stacks}

What I Wore Saturday {Living Outside the Stacks}

I wore this hanging out with the hubs on Saturday. I stepped out of my comfort zone and wore my boyfriend jeans cuffed with ankle boots.

What I Wore Sunday

This is what I wore to church on Sunday. I thought the burgundy tights added a little bit of fun to my outfit. I’m trying real hard to wear more colored tights.

What I Wore Monday

What I Wore Monday {Living Outside the Stacks}

This is a typical work outfit for me ~ cardi, flowy top, jeans and boots. I always try to dress up a plain cardi with some sort of jewelry, in this case, it’s 3 flower pins that I crocheted last year. As for the cardi love, it’s a matter of practicality. Libraries are cold, yo.

What I Wore Tuesday

I bought this tunic from some hippie store that I absolutely love but is no longer in business. I almost always pair it with that scarf (made by me).

    Love the purple tights and the tunic! There are surprising amount of librarians who link up to WIWW :)

      Thank you. Librarians have their own unique style, huh? I love viewing websites like “This is What a Librarian Looks Like” and “Librarian Wardrobe”, such fun and eclectic looks.

    Love the combos and the way you are layering and accessorizing You are so gorgeous!! I don’t go out of my way to avoid dressing like a mum but I do want dress in a non-expected way. Love the thought of how the perceptions are effected by our dress. Thanks for joining in with WW

    • DaenelT

      Thank you, Miriam. I’m big on layering because I get cold so easily. And seeing how other ladies layer has made me branch out with new colors and prints. I think the next thing for me to try is mixing my patterns. That has me so nervous!

    Cute, as usual. Especially Sunday and Monday. I was so darn excited to wear my boots Sunday; it was finally really cool here in TX! Like you, sweater weather is MY time of year. But maybe we should call it boot weather, you and I, since we’re obsessed with our cool weather kicks.

    • DaenelT

      Yes! I love it – Boot Weather. Nothing has made me happier than pulling out my boots. Just way too much fun.

    Sunday and Tuesday are my favorite looks from this batch. :) I particularly like the color combo you put together for the Sunday look – and those tights! Love them.

    • DaenelT

      Thank you, Amanda. I’m trying to add more color into my wardrobe and I thought tights would be fun.

    great! now I have inspiration on how to wear my bj. jeans!

    • DaenelT

      I love those jeans, they’re so comfy but I saw the back and they’re a little bit saggy. LOL

    Great style… as always! I love your hair on Monday. My “Mom Style” is always evolving. Lately, I’m trying to look nice & natural. A good pair of Express Jeans, a cute top, and a hat always make me feel put together w/o investing the time to do my hair & makeup. PLUS… I got rid of everything frumpy during my last closet purge. :)

    • DaenelT

      Thank you, Lisa. Getting dressed during the week isn’t hard for me because of work, but the weekend…. That’s another story. I just can’t seem to pull it together on Saturdays.

      I did a frump dump too. Just before we moved, it felt soooo good.
