Ageless Style Linkup: A Holiday Look, Kinda

THE AGELESS STYLE LINKUP

Hiiii! How are you? I’m doing well. You can’t really tell but I’ve had a bit of a hair change. I was off work and got a little bored, so I grabbed the scissors and snipped. You can see another view here and full shots here. People are always like “I cannot believe you cut your own hair!” Yeah, I do. Because if I hate it, I’d rather be mad at myself than someone else. I’m weird that way. I’m thinking about adding some purple and teal streaks, but I may hold off on that for a little while. I don’t know…

Anyway, it’s the first Tuesday of the month, which means it’s time for another Ageless Style Linkup. Yay!! The Ageless Style Linkup showcases  10 ladies with 10  different styles with 1 theme. Our hope is to show you that style doesn’t have an age limit.

This month’s theme is Holiday Looks and was selected by Shelly from The Queen In Between. Honestly, The Hubs and I don’t do much for the holidays because we spend so much time on the road visiting our grandkids, so dressing up isn’t really a priority. Therefore, my “holiday look” is more of a casual but fun look.

Edited to add: The Hubs and I were invited to a super casual Christmas party; to see what we wore, click here and here.

MY LOOK

Gray Cardigan Burgundy and Coral Bird Dress Green Tights and Brown Boots {living outside the stacks} #AgelessStyleLinkUp #LivingOutsideTheStacks #LibrarianWardrobe

People who know me, know that I’m deathly afraid of birds. Seriously, those rodents with wings FREAK. ME. OUT. But whenever I see something with a bird print, I’m all over it. When I saw this dress, I picked it up, put it down. Put it in my cart. Walked around with it. Hung it back up. Ran back and grabbed it. Contemplated it in line. And then bought it because, well, I was at the cash register and I didn’t want to be *that* person.

All the way home from the store, I just kept imagining the different ways I could wear the dress. With and without tights. With boots. With flats. With oxfords. With pumps. And oooooh the cardigans. Yeah, I took the long way home. Do you do that when you get something new? Start putting together outfits.

Anyway, I knew I was going to pair the dress with a pair of contrasting tights because, hello, cute! I just hoped the weather would cooperate with me. I live in Georgia, so you never know. {un}Fortunately, the library is freeeeezing, so I was able to wear my tights and a cute cardi. For inspiration, I turned to Pinterest because, while I have my own ideas of what colors work well together, sometimes, that corally pink color of the birds can be a little difficult.

  • I absolutely love this look! I LOVE birds, I never understood the fear of birds, though I hear about it a lot so your not alone. But I’m happy you like bird prints, because I do too. That dress is so cute! I tried to pin your picture on Pinterest and it said it “was blocked because the link may lead to spam”. Just thought I’d let you know.

  • Nathalie L.

Being a casual girl myself, I love this look! All I need to find are boots that fit my short frame and calves… have not found them yet…

    • Nathalie, I’m so happy to read that I’m not the only one who leads a casual life. I would love to have events where I dress more formally, but that’s just not my life.

  • I just have to first comment on the photos—it just goes to show what a fabulous photographer you are, because I couldn’t tell they weren’t perfect. I need to pick your brain to make my photos better—-yours are always incredible!!
And the hair—I am so impressed. I don’t think I could cut my own, but then again, I did some adjusting of mine just the last time I went for a cut—I didn’t feel like she cut enough and was too lazy to go back! But you have such the creative eye, so of course it turned out great for you!!
Now for the outfit!! It’s such a treasure of different colors which is exactly what I love. I just purchased a pair of tealish tights (although they may be more greenish than yours), and I haven’t quite figured out what I’ll wear with them. But burgundy—that could work!!!
    XOXO

    • Thank you, Jodie. Sometimes I think I’m waaaaay more critical than I should be, but we tend to be harder on ourselves than we are on others. We grew up in Italy and had to learn to do our own hair {not a lot of Italian hairdressers willing to do a black girl’s hair}, and, even after over 20 years in the U.S., I still don’t really trust anyone to do it.

I love the look of complimentary tights with dresses and skirts. I think it adds fun and dimension to the outfit. And then with a neutral shoe or boot? All of the yeses.
