Ageless Style Linkup: From Summer to Autumn

THE AGELESS STYLE LINKUP

Nine ladies, forty and over, show you that style doesn’t have an age limit. A themed linkup takes place on the first Tuesday of every month.

This month’s theme is: HOW TO TRANSITION SUMMER PIECES INTO FALL.

 Ageless Style Linkup Transitioning Summer Pieces to Autumn {living outside the stacks}

It’s almost Autumn and I am beyond excited. This is hands down my favorite season. I mean cozy sweaters, tights, riding boots… What’s not to love? And, of course, there’s coffee. Who am I kidding? It’s always coffee season. And while it won’t get cold enough for sweaters and boots for a long time because Georgia, I can still have fun putting together my outfits, right? So, yay for this month’s theme: transitioning Summer outfits to Fall outfits.

MY LOOK

Summer Look

Tunic and Lace Slip: Umgee | Skirt: Thrifted | Watch: Fitbit Blaze | Necklace, Bracelets, and Animal Print Flats: Target

It’s hot here. Hot and humid. But the library is freezing cold. So I tend to dress in layers. My legs get a little chilly during the day so I usually go for a walk to warm up. But as long as I keep my arms and hands warm, I’m good.

I am a big fan of tights. Seriously, the smallest wind and I’m breaking them out. I don’t just like them for the warmth but I like them for the texture and depth that they add to outfits. They’re also fun ~ the colors, the patterns, the textures, etc.

Tunic and Lace Slip: Umgee | Skirt: Thrifted | Watch: Fitbit Blaze | Necklace and Bracelets, and Socks: Target | Boots: Old. So very old.

My favorite fall look is a skirt with socks and boots, topped with a blouse and a cardigan or a tunic. I like this look because it’s relaxed and comfortable with just a bit of whimsy. I’m a librarian, people expect me to be a tad bit quirky and this allows me to be just that while being professional at the same time.

My friends on Instagram asked me for layering tips, so I thought I’d share a few:

  • Texture ~ mix textures: something smooth with something “rough” like the cotton of my top with the lace and tulle from the slip against the chiffon of my skirt
  • Color ~ go neutral or complimentary: I chose to stick with neutrals that were pulled from the florals in my skirt
  • Length ~ varying lengths keeps everything balanced and allows for colors and textures to show through, everything I have on has a contrasting high low hem, which allows every layer to be seen from every direction

How do you transition your outfits from Summer to Autumn?

Daenel you are one stylish librarian. I love the breezy neutrals and the effortless way you layered the tunic with the lace slip. So pretty!

Welcome by and join the latest Thursday Moda linkup with me. Share your fab style with my readers. Thanks, Ada. ?

    • Thank you, Ada! I love love love to layer. It’s great for warmth and depth.

  • Debbie Stinedurf

Oh my oh my…the look with the boots and socks…serious outfit envy! I love tights in theory, for all of the reasons that you do, but I abhor wearing them. Simultaneously wearing tights and a bra makes my brain want to explode…lol! And yes, every single day of the year is coffee season.

    • LOL I hate wearing a bra but I have too because, well, I don’t wanna get arrested. Tights suck things in for me, which I love. When I was a teen {and had no reason to do so}, I used to tuck my tights under my bra to streamline everything. *insert eye roll* Anyway, I said all of that to say the tights only come out in winter.

  • This is perfect and I love it! Although I am not ready to transition from summer to a fall wardrobe, I am looking forward to wearing more maxi dresses and skirts – will link up next week.

    • Thank you. I love love love maxi dresses and skirts for fall. And with ankle boots? Yes!!

  • I love these looks! Ok, so are you trying to lure me out of the shadows and dust off my blog? LOL
Seriously, we can get away with not dressing like Fall here in the South for a while, but why would we? Boots!! Tights!! Leggings!! Yes and thank you. I can not wait to check out the link up later today! Have a wonderful day!!
BTW did you catch Queen Sugar last night on OWN??

    • Do it! I think about giving it up all the time… Sometimes I just don’t have anything to say and it all feels forced. Other times I know I’d miss it. This is my creative and social outlet.

I did see it. In fact, I’m watching the second episode right now. I think I could get into this show. Sometimes, and I hate to say this, predominantly black dramas can seem rather high schoolish and way over the top {Tyler Perry, I’m looking at you}, this has quality. The production is sleek and the acting is top notch. Totally feeling this one.

      • Exactly why I stopped all together and use the other platforms to stay connected. I would miss you terribly if not for your blog, IG, etc.;)

I agree TP is not for me all the time, but this QS is sooo well done. Glad to see some of the veteran actors come out and grace us with their presence. I will watch the second episode some time tonight or over the weekend.

Enjoy your day oh and I just left the salon…..posting later. wink, wink!!

  • I enjoyed seeing the subtle transformation of your look, as well as the tips on how to layer. Seriously loving this mix of patterns and textures. I am in the midst of planning a post for ways to style a tunic and am considering how I can use these tips for one of my looks.

Oh, and do you follow Nothing but Pixies on IG? Girl. The styles I see everyday…

    • I’m looking up Nothing but Pixies now. I cannot cut my hair again. I cannot cut my hair again. Maybe if I say it enough… LOL But I just don’t know what to do with it anymore. And I miss my curly hair.

  • My favorite is how you styled it with the boots. Ah. I love that look.

    • Thank you. That’s my favorite too.

  • You are so beautiful! Love your pattern mixing here.
