THE AGELESS STYLE LINKUP

Hi, welcome to the Ageless Style Linkup. The linkup runs the first Tuesday of each month and features 10 women over the age of 40 styling an outfit based on one theme, and, because we’re all so different, each theme interpretation is different. Each month, one of the co-hosts invites a guest co-host to join us for the linkup. Our goal is to show you that style is ageless…

This month’s theme is: “The Unexpected” and was chosen by me.

MY LOOK

Soooo when I chose this theme I had something so very different in mind. I’d just bought my THIRD jumpsuit {a totally kick butt take me back to Studio 54 number} and I forgot to take my pictures. Yes. I, the theme selector, forgot to take my pictures. How does that even happen?

Given the situation, I had to dig through my archives for some pictures of something, ummmm, different from what I’d normally wear. It wasn’t easy, y’all. I mean, I wear what I’m gonna wear. Then I saw this outfit and I was like, yeah, I remember the day I wore this I thought: hmmmm, how can I style these Pixie Pants in a way that I’d normally not wear them?

I mean, I have a deep and unabashed love for Pixie Pants. They’re comfortable and professional looking and they come in funky patterns {as well as classic solids}. When I bought this plaid pair, I had every intention of going ultra conservative with the look and pairing it with a traditional button down and a blazer. Yeah, that never happened. I just can’t find a white button down that looks good on me.

So I turned to Pinterest for some inspiration and ended up choosing an unexpected color combination rather than an unexpected clothing piece. I’ve always thought of yellow, black, and white as a classic color {even if it is somewhat reminiscent of a bee}, but adding the pop of red just bumps it up a notch.

And, in case you haven’t noticed, I’m a super fan of the ankle strap shoe. I think ankle straps can swing anywhere from demure to sexy, depending upon the outfit.

I also did something else that I rarely ever do… I added a red lip to my outfit. My twin sister {you can see the two of us together here} has been trying to get me to wear a red lip for years. I love it when I do it, but it takes me forever to get to that point. There’s just something so attention grabbing about a red lip, ya know?
