Ageless Style Linkup: What Goes Around…

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you had a peaceful introduction to 2018. We did. The Hubs, our youngest daughter, and I spent some time with our oldest daughter and her family and, wow, was it fun. We’re already talking about when we can see them again. The grandkids had us laughing at their antics. They even tried to teach The Hubs some new dance moves. 😳😂 You can see photos from our trip on Instagram, if you like.

So, this is the first Ageless Style Linkup of 2018.  Yay! I couldn’t be more excited. There are some exciting changes to announce, but first a little about the linkup.

The linkup runs the first Tuesday of each month and features 10 women over the age of 40 styling an outfit based on one theme, and, because we’re all so different, each theme interpretation is different.

The changes:

This month, we’re welcoming two new ladies to the group: Kellyann of This Blonde’s Shopping Bag and Lisa of Classic Style by Lisa. You can find more about them by clicking the links below.

This year, we’re also introducing a different co-host to the linkup each month. This month’s theme and co-host were selected by Cathy V from Cathy V Style. Our guest co-host is Samantha from Fake Fabulous and the theme is “everything old is new.” You can find out more about Samantha below, please give her a warm welcome and definitely go check out her blog.

As a librarian, I own more than my fair share of cardigans, but the one thing I don’t own a lot of are blazers. I’ve tried to wear them but I always feel like a little kid playing dress up in them. I mean, I love the way blazers look on others but on me? Not so much. That being said, I will wear a faux leather blazer in a heartbeat. Why? Because they’re edgy and a bit bohemian – a look that’s well within my comfort zone.

I remember back in the day when everyone had a black leather jacket / blazer. Honestly, we looked like Fonzie had become our personal stylist. Then, one day, leather blazers / jackets became uncool. Now leather jackets are cool again. Especially faux ones in unexpected colors. The one I’m wearing is a beautiful wine color that I use as a neutral. It can be worn with anything. The ruffles are perfect for softening up hard denim looks, while the cut of the leather toughens up flowy dresses.

  • Thank you so much for having me this month Daenel… and introducing me to some new bloggers too!
It has been lots of fun to work with you again.

    • Thank you for joining us, Samantha. I always have fun with these linkups, I get so many ideas for how to {re}wear items in my closet.

  • Such a great leather jacket! I really like the burgundy color and cutest ruffle sleeve detail. Those earrings look fab on you, too. I need to give these a try, as I have heard really good things about them.

    • Thanks, Jennie. I am so loving these earrings. But I will say, my favorites are the heavier weight (thicker) leather ones. The suedes are cute, but they’re a little too flexible for my liking. But the leather ones are stiffer. Either way, they’re cute and so light. Definitely my favorites {along with a simple pair of gold hoops}/

  • This is a lovely look and I too have a fondness for faux leather in colors as well as in black. Your wine colored one is spot on with its rich hue and ruffle detail. Thanks for sharing your styling ideas and for the link up.

    • Rena, thank you. It was the ruffles that first caught my eye. I mean, come on, ruffled leather? Yes, please!

  • Paula Holloway

This Leather Jacket even has that vintage “Members Only” jacket styling. Good one!

    • LOL Paula, I totally forgot about Members Only. My mom wouldn’t get me one, so maybe that’s why I like this styling so much.

  • Adorable, as always!I know what you mean about blazers feeling like you’re playing dress-up, lol. I keep seeing EVERYONE talk about those earrings… so getting a pair will be my treat to myself once I hit weight goal #1. 🙂

    • These earrings really are the cutest. Like I told Jennie, I prefer the leather ones to the suede ones because they’re a bit stiffer but you can’t go wrong with either material.

  • It’s true, how all of a sudden something isn’t in style anymore, and you wonder why??? I love the leather jackets that look like blazers!! The ruffles on this one are perfect!! And of course, your photos intrigue me. The lighting is fabulous. How come when I take inside photos, they never look right when I try to stand in front of the window??
    Happy 2018

    • To photograph inside, you have to make sure that the ISO on your camera is up and that you have a lot of natural light (I’d say 95% of my photos are taken during the midday if I’m going to be inside). I never use the flash (the photos come out too flat). I think I’ll write a quick post on how I do it and send you the link. That way you can refer to it. 🙂

      • I can’t wait to read that post!! I’ve gotten better at it, but it still seems like I need more practice!!!

  • Love that blazer!! I have those earrings too, love them.

    • Seriously, aren’t these earrings the cutest? And so lightweight.

  • Daenel, this blazer is gorgeous! I love the color and the subtle ruffle trim. Such a great easy yet chic casual outfit. Fonzie would be proud! Wishing you a very happy and healthy new year!

    • Thank you, Shelbee. Who knew Fonzie would be a style icon? LOL Happy New Year to you and yours as well.

  • Kellyann

I am cracking up over your Fonzie comment because yes, that’s so true! I remember having a faux leather blazer in school and then not having one for ages. Now I own one again and a friend gifted me another for Christmas. Yours looks great and the color is so pretty on you!

    • My mom used to yell at us for watching Happy Days — those disrespectful teenagers telling people to “sit on it” and Fonzie with all his girls and that leather jacket. LOL I should note that my parents are preachers. Now I’m taking my fashion cues from him. LOL

  • I love the jacket/blazer Daenel! It is just the right amount of edgy…perfection. I loved all of your Instagram pics from your holiday. I think my favorite was your granddaughter whom you said won’t really talk to you, but she was willing to point to toys she wanted at the toy store, too cute! You have a beautiful family my friend.

    • Paula Holloway

I loved that picture the most too Debbie and Daenel!

      • Thank you, Paula. That little girl is something else — mostly spoiled. LOL

    • We had so much fun with the grandkids. I couldn’t believe the baby wouldn’t come to me this trip. Last time, she was attached to my hip. She’s so fickle. LOL
