Ageless Style: Summer Skirt for Autumn 10 comments

THE AGELESS STYLE LINKUP

Hi! How was your Labor Day Weekend? Mine was absolutely wonderful! Four of my five kids came to visit us in Georgia and was ~ I don’t know, my momma heart was overflowing. It’s hard when your children grow up and get lives of their owns. On the one hand, I’m incredibly proud of them but, on the other, I. Miss. My. Babies.

Anyway, with the beginning of a new month, comes the first Tuesday of the month, and a new Ageless Style Linkup! For the linkup, ten ladies, all over the age of 40, get together and share their interpretations of a specific style theme. Our goal is to show you that “style doesn’t have an age limit.”

This month’s theme, suggested by Jodie from Jodie’s Touch of Style, is to show how we transition a summer skirt for Autumn. I’ll be honest, Autumn is my favorite season: cooler temps, cozy sweaters, chunky boots…

MY LOOK

I asked my second oldest kid if she’d like to join me for a few pictures. Of course, she was more than ready…

I’ve styled this skirt for a similar challenge here. Funny, how this seems to be my go~to transitional piece, but it is. I think it works because of the black background and the coffee toned florals. I’ve worn this skirt bare~legged and with tights, with flats and with boots. It just works. This time, I decided to pair my skirt up with a maxi cardigan. I’ve had this cardigan in my closet for a long time and have never worn it. I’m still not sure if I’m feeling it, but, hey, this is all about trying new looks and stepping out of our comfort zones, right?

This is an outtake, but it was just so, I don’t know, us, that I had to share it…

Now that I look at it, I’m going to be honest and say that the striped tee isn’t working for me either. So, I’ll be adding that to the donation pile. See, that’s another thing that comes from doing these types of posts, we’re able to look at ourselves and see what does and does not work for our body type and then make decisions from there.

Have you ever had an idea for an outfit in your head and then have it fall apart in reality?

  • You look lovely, and the skirt is paired beautifully with the long duster. Autumn is my favourite season as well. <3 /Madison

    • Hey, Lady!! I hope you’re doing well.

Autumn is the best – sweaters, boots, tights, socks, just the best!!

  • I’m with you, a dark print skirt can and should be worn all year long. I really like how you’ve paired yours with boots and a long cardigan.

    • Thank you, Rena. That skirt was probably one of my favorite / best purchases.

  • Daenal….I really love how you put this outfit together and included your daughter!! You fit right it with my blog since it’s a mother/daughter thing!!
The cardigan is fabulous, and I think the stripes work perfectly. Even if you get rid of this striped shirt—you HAVE to get another one!!

    • Jodie, that’s right! We kept the generational theme going. My daughter is suuuuuch a clothes horse {I don’t know where she gets it from}. Our style is similar but she adds a little twist.

I think it may be the fabric that I don’t really like. It was a little clingy in all of the wrong places. Maybe a woven material would be better? But I do like the classic yet funky look of black and white stripes.

  • Daenel, I love the pattern mixing and the long cardigan over the shorter skirt! And I am so ready for skirts and dresses with tall boots! Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, too. You look fabulous and your daughter is absolutely stunning! I love that outtake photo…priceless!

    • Thank you, she looooves makeup. I’m envious of her skills. Skirts and dresses with boots are my go~to outfits for cooler weather. I can’t wait for it to really start to turn here in Georgia.

  • Paula Holloway

I love it Daenel. We had the same idea this month with the long cardigan. I also love seeing your kids (IG), it IS hard when the babies grow up. It’s probably especially so when they live further away from you.

    • Paula, I love maxi cardigans but can’t seem to style them correctly. My kids are so silly, I wish I could capture that. But most of the time I’m laughing too hard.
