Recently, I attended a presentation called “The Psychology of Now… In Retail and Fashion” by Lynn R. Moore. During the presentation, Lynn talked about current trends in retail and how people have shifted their thought from “I must have new” to “How can I reuse and/or recycle?” She talked about how people are thrifting more, shopping in vintage/second hand shops, garage sales, etc and upcycling their finds. She ended her talk with a discussion about the importance of buying local.

One of the stores she mentioned was Annie Laurie’s Antiques. Now I’d been hearing about this shop pretty much since I moved to Missouri but I never quite found the time to pay a visit. But after hearing the rave reviews from Lynn (and eyeballing a beautiful necklace she was wearing), I decided that no matter what I was making a trip.

I ended up going two days in a row. Once by myself and the second time with the hubs.

I absolutely adored the whimsical decor. See those frames, wouldn’t they make fabulous memory boards? Or chalk board frames? And, come on, umbrellas hanging from the ceiling? Fabulous!

My first trip was spent scoping the place out. I found a couple of pairs of boots that I absolutely adored but they were too small…

I also spied some fabric I thought would be make a lovely new slipcover for a bench the hubs and I had picked up from an earlier trip to a second hand store. Vintage luggage tabletops, anyone?

And, of course, there were all sorts of fun little things such as bird cages, globes and old books (be still my bird fearing wanderlust having librarian heart).

The hubs and I will definitely be going back, we have lots of space to fill in our home.

Do you shop second hand stores? Are you a thrifter? What was your last purchase?
