Coffee Talk {living outside the stacks}

I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk…

  1. Did you see Kelly Ripa’s return to Live with Kelly & Michael? I don’t watch the show because I’m not home during the day and, honestly, the show just isn’t on my radar BUT… I know everyone’s heard about Michael Strahan’s departure and the way things went down. Anyway, Kelly took some time to gather her thoughts and when she returned? Classy. Classy. Classy. She verbally smacked her network {and Michael Strahan} for the way they handled things and then gave them the one thing neither of them gave her: respect. Side note: I remember Kelly Ripa from her punky teenagery days on All My Children. Loved her!
  2. So people are surprised that Ali Vincent, the 2008 winner of the Biggest Loser, has regained the weight. Why? When she lost the weight she had a support team of coaches and nutritionists to push her forward, once she went back to her real life she lost the crew. Maintaining the routine on her own would’ve been difficult at best, probably impossible. And, as someone who has struggled with her weight for the past ten or so years, I know how hard it can be to keep going when you want to quit or when you’re not seeing the progress you think you should be seeing. I also know how difficult it can be dealing with public criticism. I have been the recipient of more than a few nasty messages about my size, so I couldn’t imagine it happening on a national scale. Not that she’s reading this post or will even hear about it, but I want to send out a fist bump to Ms. Vincent and a heartfelt “Be healthy. Keep your chin up.”
  3. Transracial pioneer Rachel Dolezal is writing a book about race. I have nothing more to say about this because it has all been said here.

So, talk to me, what’s going on in your world,
