I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk…

Honest to goodness, it’s like Summer peeked her head through the door, got us all excited, and then Winter came through and punched her in the throat! Last week, I was wearing short sleeves and sandals; this week I’m all bundled up and riding with my seat warmer on. I can’t deal, y’all. I cannot deal. I’m a weather wuss.

I turn 43 next month. Forty~three. For some reason, the odd ages bother me more than the even ages. So, I decided this year is THE YEAR that I get healthy. And get my weight under control. How many times have I said that?

This time, I’m on the right track…

Four weeks ago I upgraded my Fitbit Flex to a Fitbit Charge HR and, y’all, I am loving it. The only thing I miss about the Flex is the ability to change the wristbands to compliment my outfits. Y’all know how much I like to keep things fancy. That being said, I have no regrets about the upgrade. I like being able to track my heartbeat when I’m working out. It pushes me to stay in the fat burning zone, which makes me feel like I’m really getting something out of my workout.

In the four weeks that I’ve had my Charge, I’ve lost 4 lbs {170.2 lbs down to 166.2. My goal is to get down to 150}. That may not sound like a lot but, for me, it’s a big deal. I’ve been trying to lose weight for a long time and nothing seemed to be working. Tracking my steps {10,000+ per day}, calories eaten {roughly 1270 per day} and burned {2200+ per day} has helped a whole lot.

Another thing that has helped is the challenges. Every few days, I get challenged by my friends to compete for the most steps taken during the day, work week, or weekend. Knowing that I’m like a couple of steps behind someone or a few steps ahead of someone else pushes me to move more. side note: I gave my Flex to my daughter and she has been kicking my butt!! She’s lost 5 lbs in the four weeks that she has had the Flex. Go, her!

And, you guys, the Caller ID? It’s a feature I didn’t know I needed. I used to think, I have my phone right here, why do I need caller id on my wrist? Because WHEN I’M WORKING OUT MY PHONE IS STRAPPED TO MY ARM!!! Now I don’t have to worry about taking my phone out of my arm band to see who’s calling. I just look at my wrist, see who’s calling, and answer {or not answer} via my earbuds. Genius!!

If you have a Fitbit, feel free to send me a friend request. And if you’re in the market for a fitness tracker, I can’t recommend Fitbit enough. They have trackers at a variety of price points, colors, and fitness needs.

So, talk to me, what’s going on in your world,
