Coffee Talk {Living Outside the Stacks}

Hi, and welcome to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk…

1. What is up with Dennis Rodman? He’s running around with that lunatic in North Korea, talking about Kim Jong Un is “a good guy”… And, um, OK, his singing “Happy Birthday” to little Kim totally skeeved me. It was so breathy and Marilyn Monroe~esque. Word to Dennis: Please don’t be that guy on TV talking about “He seemed so normal. I didn’t realize he had bodies buried in his backyard.”

2. Cursing toddlers are not funny. Posting videos of cursing toddlers is not “educational”, even if it is posted by the Omaha Police Union. Let me make a couple of points here:

To parents:

  • teaching your toddler to curse is never acceptable
  • as a parent, you should want your child to do better, to be better…that can only be done through proper education

To police:

  • if you really want to educate parents, show videos of parents who are doing it right
  • encourage kids who are doing well by rewarding or honoring them

3. Is it just me or does “Polar Vortex” sound like some made up weather calamity on the SyFy channel? I just kept imagining some scientist going “Mr. President, we’re running out of time. We have got to evacuate every American from the planet now. It’s a Polar Vortex.” I’ve got jokes. But, y’all, it has been cold. And, yes, I know it’s winter.

What had you scratchin’ your head this week?
