Coffee Talk {living outside the stacks}

I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. If you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

Let me just put this out there: I am not a sports fan. I haven’t watched any part of the international five ringed sports competition at all, but, because it is the international five ringed sports competition I am aware of all the wins, heart melting stories, controversies, and downright showing one’s tailness that is going on. And, for the most part, I’ve avoided commenting or voicing my opinion because there are others who’re doing a wonderful job of slapping down the trolls. But I feel the need to just throw this out there ~ and I don’t say this lightly ~ the last few days of news coming out of Rio regarding Lochte and his pals is the epitome of white male privilege on display. These grown men went to Rio to represent the United States in an international sporting event and they chose to commit a crime and then lie to cover it up. And, make no mistake, what they did is a crime. But I doubt they’ll face any consequences because {grown} white men get a pass. “Boys will be boys.” We see it all the time:

And, yes, I know, you’re thinking these events don’t compare but they do. If athletes of color had done anything remotely close to this they would’ve been called all kinds of thug and considered a disgrace… Look at how folks responded when Gabby Douglas didn’t place her hand over her heart during the playing of the National Anthem. She was overwhelmed. He was a jerk.

So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk…

Now it’s your turn, what has you scratching your head?

Sipping my coffee while you talk,
