I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. If you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

When we were kids, we were taught not to eat just anybody’s cooking. No matter how hungry / thirsty we were or how much we wanted a piece of candy or what have you, we had to look to my mother for approval. She would either shake her head yes or nod a no and we would reply, politely, with “yes, please” or “no, thank you.” We used to think my mom was just being mean and controlling, but when we were old enough to understand, she explained that different folks do different things in their kitchens {e.g. lick spoons and reuse them, allow cats to sit on the counters, etc.}. But the one thing she never ever warned us about is someone using their breast milk to make brownies for a school bake sale. I kid you not. Some woman used her breast milk to make brownies for a bake sale and then didn’t understand why folks were angry about it. I cannot scream “Ewwww” or “What the heck” loud enough. Side note, I’m also disgusted by birthday cakes for this very reason. I do not want to eat anything that has someone’s bodily fluids in or on it. That is beyond gross.

Those of you who supported Donald Trump, are you still good with your choice? Asking for a friend.

So when The Hubs and I were shopping for a new desktop for me, I had my choice between black and white. I chose white because it fit with the light and airy feel of my office. Part of me, however, was already cringing at the thought of a cruddy looking keyboard and, sure enough, it has happened. How in the world am I supposed to get it white again? It’s driving me nuts.

I need a personal trainer. Someone to keep me accountable / motivated. Y’all, I got on the scale the other day and YIKES! Not only that, my pants and skirts are more than a little snug. I mean, I’ve been doing better with my steps and I’m eating better, but I’m not seeing any changes. If anything, the scale seems to have bumped in the wrong direction. I’m beyond discouraged.

Now, it’s your turn… What’s going on in your world? Anything have you scratching your head or belly laughing? Is there a book I absolutely must add to my TBR Shelf? Have you cooked or ordered anything tasty?

    Yeah, I don’t eat at my in-laws anymore for that reason. Well, that and the fact that a small metal shaving from a can was lodged in my throat on top of my vocal chord! My surgeon said that it was the most expensive spaghetti dinner I’ll ever have…….

  • Finally finished The Women in the Castle. So. Good. How did you feel about Mary Anne when you read the book? I found myself becoming angrier and more frustrated with her. But I guess she had a vested interest in the lives of the other women and felt she was justified in passing judgement on them and interfering in their lives at times. Thank you for the recommendation.

    I had to turn in my laptop for the installation of a new keyboard and while the technician had it, he also cleaned up the monitor, the case. It looked so nice and kitty-fur-free for about five minutes. And now is it furry and smudged and grimy again.

    Started back on Weight Watchers online program today for the same reason you are hoping to up your game. Everything is snug. Made myself wear too-tight workout shorts all day yesterday as a reminder and punishment for the sins of my recent indulgences. Just want to lose few pounds and feel better again in my clothes. This summer, I have NOT walked my 10K steps. I do much better when I am at school.

    • I was torn over Mary Anne. I wanted to dislike her because she was so very judgmental but I understood her too. Especially when I realized the betrayal. But I would’ve done the same thing to save my family. I think. That book seriously made me think about how I would handle a situation like that. Definitely won of my better reads.

      LOL at the five minutes. I love the look of white tech but it definitely makes me cringe.

      I don’t even feel like I’ve eaten that much more… Where did the weight come from? This getting older thing is for the birds. LOL

    I was raised the same way and raised my daughter the same way. We just don’t really eat other folks’ cooking because people are nasty. And the nasty ones are always the ones who wanna offer their food to people or bring it to potlucks.Yeah, no. I’m good on that. I feel you on the weight thing. The older I get, the harder the struggle. And it doesn’t help that my body doesn’t process carbs correctly and holds onto fat. SMH. Anyway, look into Intermittent Fasting. I started that this week, and lost 2.5 pounds since Monday, which is great. Basically, I’m fasting for 16 hours and eating all my food in the other 8 hours. So I fast from 9pm in the evening to 1pm the next afternoon, then eat my meals between 1-9pm. This is totally doable for me and if I continue to see the results I’ve seen this week, I’m sold. I’ve been eating pretty well for years, but sweets & junk at night were my biggest issue. I cut that out for the most part in May when I started tracking my eating again with MFP, but the scale just wasn’t moving, especially considering I’d pretty much cut out ALL of the junk. It was SO discouraging. Then I started reading about IF and realized this was something I could easily do. The first week has been a breeze. If you’re not big on eating breakfast, I think that makes it easier. Lots of folks experience headaches & such the first week, but I’ve not had anything like that. As to that keyboard – make a mixture of equal parts white vinegar/old school Dawn/water and put in a spray bottle. It is the best shower/tub/everydangthing cleaner. I haven’t bought cleaning products since I discovered it. I bet it will take care of that keyboard for you.

    • It always surprises me to find that people don’t think about things like that… Ummm, hello, you definitely don’t want to eat everyone’s meatloaf. I just don’t get it. At all.

      Hmmm, I’ll have to look into IF. I don’t normally eat breakfast either, so I don’t think that should be a big issue for me. I’ve promised myself no junk food this week. Not that I’m big on a junk food, but I do have a weakness for tortilla chips. Plain. I can eat an entire bag.

      Thanks for the keyboard tip too. My kids are always asking why I don’t live in a bubble given how neat and clean I like everything. LOL
