I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

1. Can we talk about the Ebola situation? Part of me thinks it’s another manufactured epidemic to keep the focus off the “real” issues, but another part of me is like, ummmm, why haven’t we stopped people from returning to this country who’ve been in one of these stricken countries? And don’t tell me we can’t just turn people away. Uh, yeah, we can. Seriously, have you people never seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes? It all starts with one cough. I mean, Thomas Eric Duncan has died. Spain just killed that nurse’s dog because of Ebola. And now a sheriff’s deputy is under observation… Yet the authorities keep saying that the virus is not easily transmittable. Methinks the people in charge have no idea what they’re talking about…
2. The family and I went to see Left Behind over the weekend. If you saw the original, stick with that version. I’m not sure what message the producers/actors/writers were trying to get out but the message of Christ’s redemptive love was not it. There were 3 “Christians” in the movie:
- the witness at the airport who was openly hostile and had an attitude from the jump
- Irene who was labeled as “crazy” by her family and didn’t seem to have any real purpose except to serve as the crazy family member that everyone talks about
- Pastor Bruce who preached the word but didn’t live the word
I think more focus should have been placed on why the Rapture happened and the events ~ the panic ~ that ensued after millions of people disappeared. Instead what we got was a plane based “thriller” with a Christian label. It takes more than mentioning Christ’s name a few times and showing a Bible for a movie to be Christian.
There was absolutely no doctrine to this movie. At all.
And Nicolas Cage? Really?
3. I know I’ve discussed this before, but when the police pull you over {whether you feel you have done anything wrong or not} you need to pull over and comply with their requests. And before anybody says I don’t know what it’s like to be pulled over and scared, I do. I have been pulled over and questioned for no reason. I have been followed through stores. I’ve been falsely accused… I understand the fear. And in each situation I complied with the officers’ requests and dealt with {their} wrongdoings at a later time when things had de~escalated, which is why I’m able to sit here and type what I’m about to type. If you get pulled over, if the police tell you to stop, just do it. Even if you feel it’s an unwarranted stop, don’t get combative, don’t argue, just do what the officer says and then fix the situation later. No matter how you feel, the police are in the position of power and the more you question, the more you refuse to comply, the greater the chances of you getting hurt. After the police have finished with you, make note of everything that happened and then go to the police station to file a report or talk to a lawyer but DO NOT TRY TO HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS ON THE STREET. It will not end well for you. Y’all, I’m just tired of people getting shot, tased, beaten up, etc.
