Coffee Talk: Stealing Spam and Buying Clothes

Coffee Talk {living outside the stacks}

I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. If you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know I’ve been a vegetarian for almost a week now. It kinda started as a joke, you know? My twin sister has been living the vegetarian lifestyle for few weeks now and my daughter has been a vegetarian for a few years. I’ve tried several times before but, let’s just say, one time I seriously considered eating my children and gave up. Anyway, I was talking to my mom and I told her that The Hubs and I were coming to their house for Thanksgiving and that it was going to be a vegetarian one to accommodate my sister. She didn’t take to kindly to my suggestion, but I’m bossy, so… We’re going to have turkey and all of the other traditional stuff too. Buuuuut, while I was talking, I realized that I  hadn’t had any meat products in a few days so I might as well go with it. shrug For the first few days, I was hitting up Panera Bread like it was my personal kitchen. I mean, come on, the Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich and Modern Greek Salad with Quinoa are e’erything. But, Panera is not my kitchen and it got expensive. So I had to come up with another game plan. After doing a little research, The Hubs and I went shopping and I picked up some stuff to make myself some quinoa, rice, and or veggie bowls. I’ll be sharing all the deets later on, but so far I’m happy. The Hubs, on the other hand, is continuing to eat all the meat.

Speaking of food, y’all, people in Hawaii are stealing Spam. SPAM! Did I miss something when my mom used to force feed that stuff to me when I was a kid? I need someone to taste test and report back. Is it really worth sticking behind a locked cabinet?

Some of y’all have been asking where I buy my tops from, well, some of them come from JC Penney and Target, but a majority of them come from Zulily. I like Zulily because I like to look different — I don’t want to see everyone wearing the same thing I’m wearing and Zulily removes that concern. I’ll start doing full reviews/showings of the items I purchase in the next few weeks so that you all can see the wide variety of tops I’ve purchased.

Now, it’s your turn… What’s going on in your world? Anything have you scratching your head or belly laughing? Is there a book I absolutely must add to my TBR Shelf? Have you cooked or ordered anything tasty?

  • I love Zulily, but because they don’t really do returns (tho I hear that it changing), I only buy from brands that I know my fit. Otherwise, with the way I’m built, I tend to end up with clothes that are way too big, or way too small. I usually end up buying shoes. 😉

    • So far, I haven’t had to return anything but with 4 daughters {all of us different sizes}, I know if something doesn’t fit me, it will fit one of them. But, I’ll be honest, my biggest issue with Zulily is the wait between when I order something and when it arrives. I know things come from the supplier to them, but still… It’s a long wait.

      • I have this same issue with Book Depository. They have some of the best editions of books I can’t get in the US, but 2 weeks for shipping is so sad.

  • Have only tried Zulily once for a gift. Need to check them out again. I buy a lot whole of Loft but it is easy to begin to look like everyone else when you only shop chains. Will be looking forward to your Zulily reviews.

    Stealing Spam? While I don’t condone stealing…they can have the stuff.

    Yesterday, I told PC I could about go vegetarian myself. After seeing some sad-eyed cows being transported on the Interstate. I love cows. But beef? Not so much. Prefer my beef breathing.

    • I think Zulily features more bohemian / artsy style clothes {which I think may be just as much your style as it is mine}. I don’t think I’ve ever shopped at Loft before — they lean more towards classic pieces, right? That might be a nice balance for my flowy tops and bottoms.

      The Spam thing is a little weird for me. I haven’t had it since I was a kid, but I remember not liking it at all.

      LOL The Hubs has not been supportive at all. Not that I’m trying to convert him or anything, he just says “I married a CARNIVORE!” And then cooks up the most delicious smelling steaks ever.
