Coffee Talk {living outside the stacks}

I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. If you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk…

How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was nice and low~key. It was just The Hubs, our two youngest daughters, and myself. I truly missed being surrounded by family. But we’ll be going to see our oldest daughter and her family for Christmas so I’m looking forward to that. I miss the noise and excitement of little people during the holidays.

I don’t really have anything to talk about this week. I’m trying to stay away from politics for now because, quite honestly, I’m burned out. So I thought it’d be fun to share ten things about myself that you may not know and then invite you to share something about yourself. Here goes:

  1. My favorite movie is Imitation of Life. When my father died unexpectedly, my aunt had them play Mahalia Jackson’s version of Trouble of the World, which she sings during a pivotal moment in the movie. It was his favorite song. His favorite song is from my favorite movie. Sitting in the church listening to the record play was like hearing a final message from him to me.
  2. I’ve always been a reader. My favorite series was Nancy Drew. Even now, I’m slightly obsessed and have started collecting the books. Right now I’m on the hunt for a tee shirt to add to my collection.
  3. Most people find it hard to believe but I’m uncomfortable in social settings. Small talk makes me angsty.
  4. I’m a history nerd. One of my favorite television shows is Mysteries at the Museum. The show highlights obscure historical artifacts and how they fit into history. I’m also a big fan of Brad Meltzer’s {any show of his, but he’s on a break right now}. And I was probably the only person who watched Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura.
  5. Twins run in my family. I’m a twin {45 minutes younger than my sister}. I have twins {10 minutes apart with 9 days notice}.
  6. Cats weird me out.
  7. My favorite food is seafood. I like shrimp, lobster, and crawfish, but I’d give up my favorite child for a bucket of crabs {cooked in Old Bay seasoning} and a newspaper.
  8. When I was a kid I had seizures. I had a grand mal when I was about 5 or 6 and it caused me to lose my memory. The doctor told my mom he wasn’t sure if I’d ever regain it. She started praying and “something” told her to go home and get my toy monkey. As soon as I saw the monkey, I cried out “Bobo” and everything just came tumbling back. To this day, I believe in the power of prayer and I believe that God can use anything to restore us. Even a stuffed animal.
  9. I’m slightly obsessed with shoes. And handbags. And clothes. My personal style has always been slightly quirky. Actually, that’s an understatement. My style has always been different. In fact, I used to get teased when I was in school because of the way that I dressed. One of the things about getting older, is that I care less about what other’s think. Even when I see those judgmental/disapproving looks. And I do see them quite often.
  10. The thing I’d most like to change about myself is my memory. I can remember random conversations that I had when I was 10 but I can barely remember from one day to the next. I hate it. Sometimes important details are lost, I forget people’s names, etc. It’s embarrassing.

Well, that’s it. Ten random things about me. And, let me tell ya, coming up with that list wasn’t as easy as I thought it’d be. Now it’s your turn, share as much as you’d like…

Cheers,
