Coffee Talk: The Photography Edition

Coffee Talk {living outside the stacks}

I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. If you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

I know not all of you are photographers {nor are you necessarily interested in photography}, but most of you do like to take the occasional photo to document your day or an event, so I’ve decided to share a few of my favorite photography tips:

And for my own tip: GET IN THE FRAME. You need proof {beyond the fact that you were the one holding the camera} that you were there and that you were part of your family’s life. Some of my biggest photography regrets are that I don’t have wedding photos, maternity photos, or more photos of me with my kids when they were younger. Those are times and memories that I’ll never be able to recapture. And, odd as this may sound, I wish that I’d documented my cancer journey. That was a defining moment in my life. So much happened during that time: I graduated from college, leaned on The Hubs in a way I never thought I’d have to, learned that my kids were capable of compassion, etc. I wish I could look back on that time and just remember…

Now, it’s your turn… What’s going on in your world? Anything have you scratching your head or belly laughing? Is there a book I absolutely must add to my TBR Shelf? Have you cooked or ordered anything tasty?

    Those were great tips. I find that when I follow people on instagram or FB I sometimes forget to visit their blogs 🙁 So thought I”d head over because I always love your posts, and the fact that you’re a librarian…lol. I’ve always thought that would be a great job. I love books. lol.

    My youngest daughter and I are headed to NYC in two weeks and we’re pretty excited. Very excited to take lots of photos…I’ll have to apologize ahead of time to all my FB peeps. lol. I even rented a better lens to take with us. We’re celebrating a combo 16/18 bday/ HS and College graduation. My oldest got married when the youngest turned 16 so 16 bday trip was out and she wanted to go to NYC which was out of budget so she’s been saving for 2 years to go. She is graduating from HS and did the college running start program so will also get her AA. So life here has been getting through the final two weeks of school and planning trip and grad party. I think I have 1,000 more gray hairs.

    • KristinMarie, I do the same thing — follow people on Instagram and then forget about their blogs. I’m trying hard to get back into the habit of not only reading, but commenting. Especially when photographers offer particularly useful tips.

      You and your daughter are in for an amazing trip. The Hubs and I went to NYC many years ago and were overwhelmed / awed by the people, the smells, the sounds, etc. It’s a one~of~a~kind place. I can’t believe your daughter saved up to go, what an amazing kid. And so many congratulations and fist bumps to her on her accomplishments. I know she’s going to do some amazing things.

      I’d love to know what lens you rented and how you liked it. “Shop talk” always fascinates me and I love hearing / reading about other people’s gear.

        Thank you. We are excited. Thankfully both our girls are very budget conscious and have learned to be dilligent with saving money. I could only rent one lens so I went with a Nikon 28-300 3.5. I would’ve loved to have rented a 14-24 f/2.8 as well, but just couldn’t swing both. I’ll let you know what I think. I’m a bit nervous about big city travel. We are very small town here and though we go to Portland (ore) regularly it’s not like NY that’s for sure.

        • I’m sorry, Kirstin Marie, I’m just seeing this. How was your trip? Did you all enjoy New York? Send me a link so I can see the photos. I want details!!!!! 🙂

            Here’s a link to my first post…I’m way behind on writing posts…lol. We loved the lens we rented. It was a great travel/all around lens and not too heavy. I was pretty happy with the majority of our pics. I really need to sit and just keep learning. Lol. I’ll be doing more posts hopefully throughout the week with more pictures, but you could also see my albums on FB, Kirstin Bozich Troyer
