Daenel {living outside the stacks} Fab Forties

The twenties. I’m always so torn when it comes to this decade. On the one hand, it was such a fun decade of excess and decadence, but only for a small percentage of the population. And when it came to people of color, the percentage was even smaller.

I know you didn’t come here for a history lesson, so let’s get on with it…

ABOUT THE FAB FORTIES

Fab 40’s 2020

The Fab Forties is a group of five style bloggers from around the globe who come together once a month to share their common love of fashion. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger, who is also in her forties, to join us. The group’s goal is to take on a style trend and show how we each interpret and incorporate it into our lives. Six different ladies, six different styles, you’re sure to find something that inspires you.

The Theme

This month’s theme was chosen by Shelbee in a fun nod to the Roaring Twenties.

My Outfit

Daenel T {living outside the stacks}

The inspiration for today’s outfit came from this post on Pinterest {you can get more ideas here}. I chose this outfit because I was drawn to the lace in the inspiration outfit. I also though my top has a bit of an Art Deco vibe to it.

I’m not much of a blazer wearer, but I wanted to try something a little out of my comfort zone. And the combat boots? Well, they mimic the lace-ups in the inspiration picture. And we all know how much I love my lace-up boots.

Don’t you just love this vintage radio? The Hubs and I found it at a flea market in Missouri. It doesn’t work right now, but our plan is to get it working. For now, it serves as a fun piece of decorative furniture. LOL

The camera is another fun little 1920 something decorative piece that I own courtesy of The Hubs. He found it at Annie Laurie’s, one of our favorite antique stores in Missouri.

Are you a fan of the twenties? I always said I would’ve been some gangster’s girlfriend hanging off the side of his car egging him on… Or I would’ve been a librarian by day and a hanger on at the Cotton Club by night. You know, trying to get a glimpse of Billie Holliday, The Nicholas Brothers, or Lena Horne.

GUEST HOST

Carrie {Curly Crafty Mom}

How absolutely fabulous is Carrie’s outfit? She looks like she’s on her way to a party at the Astor’s. And that blush color is just stunning – neutral but still so much color. I love the fringe – so Charleston worthy.

THE CO-HOSTS

Dee {Dee Sayz}

Dee {dee sayz}

Dee’s look whispers romance. Have you ever seen the posters for the silent films from back in the day? Doesn’t Dee look like a colorized version? I’m loving the cloche and the faux fur collar on her jacket. Also those colors are just divine.

Sheela {Sheela Writes}

Sheela {sheela writes}

Sheela totally would’ve been the one to start the flapper movement. I mean, she looks totally bad a$$ and feminine at the same time. I think this decade may have introduced the slip dress, and Sheela is totally owning the look. And those shoes? Yes, please.

Shelbee {Shelbee on the Edge}

Shelbee {shelbee on the edge}

Shelbee is giving me total “I own this place” vibes. I like how she went against type and opted for pants. So fun and tough, yet soft. From the headwear to the multi-necklace look, I’m loving it. Also, that coat is nothing short of fab.

Suzy {Suzy Turner}

One of my favorite shows is “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries” because oh my word Phryne Fisher’s wardrobe is nothing short of fantastic. Anyway, Suzy looks like she just stepped off the set. Look at that coat. Look. At. It.
