Fab Forties: Black is Beautiful

As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.

About the Fab Forties

The Fab Forties is a group of style bloggers from around the globe who come together once a month to share their common love of fashion. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger, who is also in her forties, to join us. The group’s goal is to take on a style trend and show how we each interpret and incorporate it into our lives. Five different ladies, five different styles, you’re sure to find something that inspires you.

The Theme

For this month, Ada asked us to style an all black outfit, and let me tell you, this was hard, hard, hard. I have so little black in my closet. Or rather, so little all black in my closet. Everything has some sort of print to it and I really wanted to keep with the spirit of the challenge.

MY LOOK

When I put together this outfit, I considered two things:

  • What do I have that’s all black?
  • What would I actually wear?

My slouchy sweater answered both questions. Most of the time I wear it when I’m just relaxing around the house, usually with jeans or leggings. Not gonna lie, I like the way it falls off my shoulder. My pants are dress slacks that are a bit too big and baggy, but they fit the relaxed mood that I was going for. If the weather wasn’t so gross, I would’ve worn sandals instead of boots. The jewelry is just fun and served as a nice break from all of the black.

Don’t Forget to Visit My Co-Hosts

Ada, Elegance and MommyhoodEveryday Life+Style, an Adorable Girl named Vivian, Poetry and more…

I’m so digging Ada’s outfit, the pops of sparkly red against the all black are just fun. And that purse is sooo very flirty, don’t you think? She looks Valentine’s Day date ready.

Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge  – Rediscover your edge

Shelbee looks super funky in her outfit. If you know me, you know I’m a big fan of lace underpinnings. And did you notice the color pop with the clutch? So unexpected.

Suzy, The Grey Brunette – Happily giving the finger to ageism! *this is Suzy’s NEW blog, so make sure you add it to your reader

Suzy’s lace top is absolutely stunning, and covered with that serape? Beautiful. But it’s the bag that caught my eye! Love love love.

How would you style an all black outfit? Would you add pops of color? Save it for formal or casual wear?

Four women. One theme. Four different looks.

I’d love to see how you style an all black outfit. If you do so, make sure you tag me on Instagram so I can see it.

Now go play in your closet,
