As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.

I want to take this opportunity to express my love and gratitude for those who gave their lives in defense of this nation. My heart and prayers are with the families and friends of those American heroes.

This week begins our short week/long hour days at work. I’m not really ready, y’all. From now until the first week of August, we work 4 ten-hour days. Fortunately, I have the opportunity to break my days up because I work on a variety of projects during the summer. For example, this month our college is celebrating Industrial Manufacturing Month, so I’ll be visiting our campuses taking pictures of our manufacturing students and talking to them about the electronic resources offered by the library. If you’d like to see some of the pictures that I take for the college, you can see them here.

About the Fab Forties

The Fab Forties is a group of style bloggers from around the globe who come together once a month to share their common love of fashion. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger, who is also in her forties, to join us. The group’s goal is to take on a style trend and show how we each interpret and incorporate it into our lives. Four different ladies, four different styles, you’re sure to find something that inspires you.

The Theme

This month’s theme is “Inspired by Fire” and was a collaborative effort from all of the ladies. We’ve decided, at Shelbee’s suggestion, to explore all of the elements, so make sure you stay tuned for the rest of the series.

MY LOOK

I’m not entirely sure how I discovered Kantha Bae, but I’m almost positive it was through an Instagram ad. I was immediately drawn to the colors and relaxed vibe of the pieces on the website. So, I made my first purchase. This isn’t it. LOL My first piece was actually a crossover top that’ll be making an appearance in the near future.

When I started thinking about my outfit for this month’s theme, I knew this was THE outfit to wear. I mean, look at all the colors. Don’t they just make you think of fire and flames and heat? Normally, I’m a little more modest in my dress… For example, I never would’ve worn this dress without a tee or a tank underneath it but I decided to just go for it. I put on a cute little bralette and called it a day. Now I think I’m a bralette convert.

The jeans are a pair of flare leg faves that live on my chair because I wear them so often that I almost never hang them up. I like the fit — they have the perfect amount of stretch — and the length {I like for my jeans to extend to the bottom heel of my shoes}.

And, of course, there are my clogs.

I went back and forth about using this outfit for my Style Imitating Art post because, well, look at the inspiration piece and then look at my apron dress. Right? But I chose to use this outfit for this theme because I thought the colors were reflective of what I see when I take pictures of our welding students for our college. Join me in giving a big welcome to our newest Fab Member: Mirielle! Mirielle’s dress may be fire inspired, but it looks so very cool. And with the pops of yellow, I’m totally seeing flames. Those platforms are super cute too.

Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge  – Rediscover your edge

A graphic tee and a slip dress, everything about this outfit is so right. The cowboy boots are super funky and oh-so-cute.
