Hi, everyone! I hope you’re having a lovely day. So far things are great on my end. I was recently invited by my friend, Jennie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots to join her and a fabulous group of ladies for the Ageless Style Linkup. The theme for this month is “A Summer Look”. As much as I love summer, this was a hard look for me to style because, well, my favorite style season is fall, so I don’t have a lot of summer clothes. I usually wear a lot of skirts, tees, and boots. Yes, boots. I’m a boot girl. No matter what the season.
Anyway, I went digging through my closet to see what I could find and this is it…
I’m a big fan of gauzy fabrics during the summer. I absolutely hate to iron, so anything that allows me to wear wrinkles as a fashion statement is a big ol’ win in my book. I also like the loose fit of this top: I don’t have to suck in and I don’t have to worry about the fabric clinging to my skin. There’s nothing worse than constantly tugging at my clothes because I’m uncomfortable and feeling all sweaty and disgusting, ya know?
Shorts are a new look for me. Honestly, I haven’t worn shorts in years. Short story: when my youngest daughter {who is now 19} was about 4 years old, I took her shopping with me for a semi~formal dress for an event at work. As I was admiring myself in a pretty little flapperesque number {imagine fringe, gold embroidery, black lace, etc.}, she looked up at me with her beautiful brown eyes and said: “Mommy, the back of your knees look like a video game.” And then proceeded to trace her fingers along the veins on the backs of my legs. Well, that ended that. And I stopped wearing shorts and kept my skirts at back~of~knee~covering length. Yeah, my kid totally crushed me.
Then I moved to Georgia. Y’all, it’s hot here. And, you know what? I’m 43. I cannot allow myself to be negatively influenced by a four~year~old, who is, by the way, partially responsible for all those lines on the backs of my legs, my hips, my belly, and my boobs. So whatevs, Kid! And, truth be told, I have pretty nice legs. *sticks tongue out at kid because that’s a totally mature mom thing to do*
I went back and forth on what shoes to wear: clogs or platform sandals. I ended up choosing the clogs because The Hubs and I were going to Americus to do some antiquing and I wanted to be comfortable. I’m not sure if I’ll be adding any more shorts to my wardrobe {these are the only pair I own}, but I do know I’ll be wearing this pair throughout the summer.
Outfit Details:
Blouse – Old
Earrings – QVC
Necklace, Bangles, and Shorts – Target
Clogs – Old Navy

Tania’s shift dress is everything! So flowy and cool looking. And the jewelry? Seriously fabulous!
Debbie {fashion fairy dust}
Love love love Debbie’s look. So free spirited and eclectic. Honestly, that maxi cardi is to die for!
Yvonne {funky forty}
Seriously, how fabulous is Yvonne’s outfit? I love how the chambray shirt gives the striped skirt and pumps a bit of edge.
Alice {happiness at mid life}
Love love love the print on Alice’s dress. The pops of brown against the navy with beige from the hat and sandal embellishments just scream summer.
Carmen {high latitude style}
Seriously, what’s more summer than Carmen’s florals? The gray jacket is an unexpected pairing but perfect for dealing with the AC.
Daenel T. {living outside the stacks}
Anna {mrs. american made}
What fun prints/colors on Anna’s dress! I love the addition of the black accessories. And, yep, I’m eyeing that cardigan. It’s another way to fight the cool air when indoors.
Jennie {a pocketful of polka dots}
Jennie is like walking sunshine! Love that bold shade of yellow with her hair color. And Converse for the win!
Shelly {the queen in between}
Such a classic shorts look with the Americana theme. I never even thought of pairing my shorts with a blazer. Love it. Hmmmm…. Getting an idea. Thanks, Shelly.
