Getting to Know Missouri: Cape Girardeau Southside Park

One of the things that first struck me when the hubs and I visited Missouri for the first time was incredible amount of parks ~ 2 large parks, 1 water park and a series of smaller community parks.  Not only were there a lot of parks but just about every square inch was covered with families involved in some sort of activity.  I’d never seen anything like it before.  And clean.  The parks were so incredibly clean.

Yesterday, I had a chance to go over to the Southside Park in Cape Girardeau and take some pictures.  At the time, some construction and cleaning crews were in the park doing some clean up/renovation but they allowed me to take a few pictures and even pointed out a couple of nice spots for me to set up my camera.  I still cannot get over how friendly everyone is down here.

The park is on the south side of Cape Girardeau and is pretty expansive.  The side that I was on had several pavilions, a couple of fishing piers and playgrounds scattered throughout. A hint for engaged couples, there are several spots that would make beautiful backdrops for wedding photos.

I can’t wait to get out and explore more of the area.

What do you think about your “almost”complete year in Missouri?  We live in St Louis and about to move to Kansas City.  I’m from KC, he’s from St Louis, been here 2 years.

What a  great place. I wish we had parks like that here.  Unfortunately it’s just too hot.  However in Vegas (just over the hill) they have big tent like structures that cover the playground to keep it cool enough so the kids can play.

The first week we were here it was in the triple digits, and I was miserable.  I couldn’t imagine living with that kind of heat on a regular basis.  That is harsh.  It’s still hot here, but I can handle 80s and 90s.
