Help! I Need to Decorate These Walls {Living Outside the Stacks}

OK. So I have a bit of a problem. With every other house we’ve owned, I’ve known exactly how I wanted to decorate each and every room even before we purchased the house. This time, I’m at a total loss.In our first home, everything was done in shades of burgundy, gold, and brown. In our second home, everything was blue and brown. This time, all I know is that I want to keep things light and airy. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the walls are khaki. I think we’ll keep those colors because it’s very neutral. I think my accent colors will be mustard and dark teal, but I’m still thinking on that. I do know that I need to tone down some of the brown we have going on. Wall {Living Outside the Stacks}

This is the wall that holds the TV and it’s driving me nuts that the TV is the focal point. Yes, I realize the point of the TV is to watch it, but I don’t want it being the only thing on the wall. I’ve toyed around with the idea of creating a gallery wall, which would force the TV into the role of art instead of big black box. Have you seen TV centered gallery walls? I pinned a few on Pinterest, you can check them out by clicking here. The Hubs said he’s not a fan but he’d be willing to give it a try.

I have a gift card for minted. that I’d like to use to purchase a print, but I’m not sure what I want yet. I can’t decide if I want to go with black and white prints, vintage looking prints, or mix of modern and vintage photos. I’ll probably print a couple of my own photos to add to the wall, but I’m still undecided on that as well.

I’ve had this chess set with me for at least 21 years. It was a going away gift to my parents when we left Italy, and when I moved into my first place, they gave it to me. This is the second time in all of those years that I’ve had the space to set the entire thing up. I’m pretty excited about this. The Hubs and I found the mirror at Annie Laurie’s Antiques in Missouri. I couldn’t decide what to put over the chairs, so right now there’s nothing. I’d like to put some sort of planters with greenery in them over the chairs. Maybe I’ll check out Hobby Lobby or something?

This wall is big and is begging for some sort of architectural something or other. I’ve been thinking about some sort of metal scroll piece. Whatever it is, it’ll need to be big and white, maybe a bit aged looking.

Other things I need:

  • ottoman/coffee table
  • end table
  • area rug
  • plants

So do you have any ideas? Do you think I’m on the right track? What do you have on your walls? Help me out, please!!

Thanks,
