I cannot believe I’ve been in Georgia for two years now. In some ways, it feels like I’ve always been here and, in other ways, it feels like I’ve just arrived. One of the places where I feel like a newbie is at the library where I work. Our college and one of the local universities combined to create a whole new university over the summer, so to say there are a lot of new faces on campus would be an understatement. Seriously, prior to the consolidation, our campus was small enough that everyone pretty much knew everyone else {students included}, if not by name, at least by face. Now, it’s a sea of new faces from students to staff to faculty.
Prior to this semester, I never wore my name badge or ID unless it was specifically required, but with everything being so new, I thought I’d start wearing my ID. I wanted people {especially students who are new to this campus} to be able to easily recognize me as someone who can help.
I know, my librarian is showing.
I’m not a big fan of name tags because there’s no real way to add personality to them {unless they’re big enough for flair or glitter pen doodles}, so I opted to put my ID badge on a lanyard around my neck and go from there. Functional, but not pretty.
We know me. I want pretty.
So I started looking for lanyards that worked not just as an ID badge holder, but ones that also doubled as jewelry. And I found quite a few cute options at Amazon.com. I don’t know if you have to wear ID badges or not, but if you do, you may want to consider some of these:
The options below are traditional necklace style lanyards, which means they’re secured with jewelry style clasps.
Very bohemian. Wouldn’t it look cute with a peasant blouse, a pair of jeans, and wedges?

This one has a slight vintage / romantic vibe to it. I’d love to see it with something lacy and feminine.
The following lanyards are “break~away” lanyards. They’re secured with magnets, which are great if you work in a factory or a place where your badge/lanyard could pose a choking hazard.
Don’t you just love all the charms? Definitely gives off a Roaring Twenties vibe and we all know how much I’ve always wanted to be a flapper!
I love love love the layered look here. I can definitely see this mixing in with my other jewelry pieces.
Simplicity is the key here. I’d probably pair this with a plain white tee, jeans, and a dark cardigan for an easy casual Friday look.

One of the things I like about these types of lanyards is that you can add your own piece of jewelry. eSay, you’re not wearing your badge that day or you’re going out to dinner afterwards, simply remove your badge and add a funky pendant BAM a whole new look!
