Mamavation Monday

This has been a week of changes and adjustments for me, first of all I’m still dealing with the hair thing (but that’s another story) and I’m trying to not only lose weight but move into a healthier lifestyle. My weight has always been a challenge for me ~ I was a skinny kid who became a chunky teenager who became a shapely adult (thanks to four years in the Army) who has now become an overweight adult (thank you to Thyroid Cancer and the 200 plus stations on the television).

Before 30 December I used to blow my snug jeans off as bloating or water retention. Or shrinkage from the dryer. But when I stepped on the scale and the nurse blurted out “You are 166 lbs!” I could have fallen over and died. I didn’t weigh that much when I was pregnant with twins! I sat in the doctor’s office and looked at the BMI scale, praying that it wouldn’t say what I knew it would. I am officially obese. Nice.

I want to blame my weight gain on many things: being unemployed, living with a tween and teens who eat nothing but junk, eating on the road because I’m always driving those people to and from their activities, etc. But I know I only have myself to blame. I am responsible for how and what I eat (and, ultimately, how and what my family eats). So I guess my biggest challenge this week has been recognizing that number really exists regardless of the time of the month and the only way to make that big number a small number is adjust my eating habits and make a serious lifestyle change.

My biggest success this week has been that I’ve been moving. I started the 30 Day Challenge on the Wii and I feel wonderful. My thighs are a little sore and my glutes are feeling the burn but that just means I’m working it, so I’m pretty happy about that. Today was rest day and I took that a bit too far (slept til almost noon) but I will do better this week.

My goal for this week is to focus on adjusting my eating habits. I want to make healthy foods that are delicious and appealing ~ I cannot stand looking at white foods… You know, baked, skinless chicken with brown rice…. I like “pretty” foods, so I will do some searching and report back on what I find.
