Monday Mingle: Sweet Sixteens, Toddler Pageants and Fast Cars

Makeup Free MondayMakeup Free Monday is hosted by The Beauty Bean as an initiative for women to celebrate real beauty.  I love makeup almost as much as I love shoes but I also like encouraging women to embrace their natural beauty.  Confidence is beautiful, makeup is the enhancer.

If you decide to participate in Makeup Free Monday let me know in the comments.

Monday MingleMonday Mingle is hosted by Jenn at Eighty MPH Mom. If you’d like to participate, simply create a short vlog in which you answer the questions and then hit up the linky. Don’t forget to grab the badge and leave some comment love for your fellow participants. After all, isn’t that what mingling is all about?

This week’s questions are:

1.  What did you do for your Sweet Sixteen birthday?

I don’t think we did anything special for our sixteenth birthday.  We probably just had cake and ice cream or something but I can’t remember us having a big ol’ party or anything.

2.  What do you think of little girls dressing like adults for pageants (think Toddlers and Tiaras)?

I think it’s incredibly stupid and borders on child abuse.  Who in the world thinks it’s adorable for a toddler to shimmy and shake his or her non~existent boobs.  And what parent in their right mind teaches their child that their value depends on their exterior?  I think I’d feel differently if parents weren’t spray tanning, flippering and wigging out their kids to the point where they look like 3 foot tall showgirls.

3.  What kind of car did you learn to drive in?

I learned to drive in a Mercedes, kinda sorta.  But I got my driver’s license in a Pontiac Fiero, it was a pretty sweet ride that I paid for myself, thankyouverymuch.

Next week’s questions are:

1.  What are some fun attractions near where you live (farms, amusement parks, etc.)

2.  Where’s the last place you and your spouse went alone?

3.  Are you happy the kids are back in school?

I’m not too fun of wearing make-up… As what you’ve said, confident is beautiful. That’s what I am. Self confident is the way to make self beautiful. I love you thought. Thanks for sharing this.

    • Yay for self confidence!

  • I’m makeup-less everyday.  🙂  I love that initiative though, thanks for telling me about it!  I think things like that are awesome.
COMPLETELY agree with you on Toddlers and Tiaras.
Wow, look at you fancy lady, Mercedes!  Lucky!
So nice to meet you!  Have a good week!

    • Hi Lauren,  I’ve found that since moving to the south I wear much less makeup than I used to (it’s too hot to do otherwise).  LOL But it really is a great initiative.

I agree with you on the dancing part of Toddlers & Tiaras too – I don’t get why they have them doing “sexy” moves – it’s very odd!

    • Isn’t it something?  Kids get victimized enough without their parents contributing to it.

I watch the Duggars while on the treadmill, and today they had a Toddlers and Tiaras commercial in which a girl’s parents stuffed her dance leotard with little fake boobies,  I actually gasped from shock.

For my 16th birthday I had a few friends over and I received a stuffed Charlie Brown doll and a Kermit doll.  So much more age appropriate than what goes on today!  I still was sweet.  Nowadays, they should call some Sultry 16 parties…

    • Are you serious?  That just makes me want to vomit.  Why?  Why?  There really aren’t enough words to express my anger/frustration.

I love your birthday gifts.  I wish kids could go back to being that sweet and innocent but I fear they’re too far gone now…

Is it crazy that NONE of us can remember what we did on our 16th birthdays?! It used to be a major milestone…

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you didnt hold back on the Toddlers and Tiaras thing – I COULD NOT agree more!

My parents gave me a Mercedes for my Senior year – I LOVED that car!! Drove it till the wheels nearly fell off!  hahahaha

Happy Monday!  See you next week!

    • Does that mean we’re all old?  LOL

That Toddlers & Tiaras thing makes me want to bum rush the show and take all those kids.  That’s just too much too soon for nothing.

Ooooh a Mercedes.  Girl, I would’ve been using electrical tape to hold it together.  LOL

If I can recall correctly, I was at work on my birthday. As a matter of fact, I was at work on my birthday this year too. Next year, I hope it’ll be different.

I don’t even watch the show because I think it’s simply ridiculous. But, that’s just my opinion. I just couldn’t put my daughter through the madness.

I learned to drive in a 94′ Chrysler Concorde.

    • Girl, you need to have a day off on your birthday.  Send the kids to a friend’s and go get your nails done.  You have more than earned it.  In fact, I think that should be your birthday post for next year.  🙂

I know, that show drives me insane.  I hate what the parents do to their kids.  It seems like it would count as mental cruelty.
