Recently I was offered the chance to try Youthful Trends Caffeinated Makeup Primer. Yes, you read it right, makeup primer with a jolt of caffeine. And you know me, coffee junkie that I am, I had to try it.
First off, let me disclose that I am a Bare Escentuals fan. Love, love, love their mineral makeup (but I’m not going to go any further on that because this isn’t about them but if they want to send me something to review, I’d me more than happy to oblige)…
Now let’s get back to my review of Youthful Trends Caffeinated Makeup Primer. I don’t normally use makeup primer but with summer here and temperatures rising, I’ve been desperate to find something to help me keep my makeup looking fresh. So this offer really came along at a good time. And again, the whole idea of it being infused with caffeine really piqued my interest.
When I received the bottle, the first thing I did was smell it (don’t you sniff stuff too?). I couldn’t readily place the smell, it wasn’t chemical or medical, it was unusual. After a few minutes, the smell fades but that initial whiff? Ummm, not good.
Since I wasn’t overly familiar with the product, I wanted to know exactly what I’d be spraying on my face so I checked out the list of ingredients and loved that I could pronounce everything in the bottle: cucumber, green tea, maitake mushroom, cats claw, sage, rosemary, vegetable glycerin, witch hazel in a base of purified water. I assume the smell comes from the mix of sage, rosemary, cucumber, tea and mushroom. The bottle also says that this product is made in the U.S.A. and has not been tested on animals. Yay! It’s also recommended for all skin types and makeup formulations.
Anyway, I followed the directions ~ shook the bottle and spritzed it on my face. While I waited for it to dry, I combed my hair and did a few other things. Honestly, it only took a few minutes for it to dry but with mineral make up you want to be sure your face is completely dry before application. The product description states that the primer will tone and hydrate the skin, reduce sweating and extend makeup. Click here to see my face without the primer and here to see my face with the primer.
I noticed that my makeup did go on much smoother and it lasted a lot longer. My freckles didn’t appear as noticeable nor did the discoloration that I have on the bridge of my nose. My skin also appeared smoother, almost like it was airbrushed ~ a big plus. The only things I didn’t like were the smell and the “heaviness” that my skin had. Seriously, my skin felt like something was on it which I normally don’t feel when I’m wearing Bare Escentuals. That feeling was enough to keep the primer from scoring high on my usability list but I did like the overall result of the primer.
I wouldn’t use Youthful Trends Caffeinated Makeup Primer on a regular basis but for special occasions, it’s a definite “yes.” If you’d like to give the primer a try, Youthful Trends is offering my readers a discount if you use the code “SHEBLOGS” when ordering. Click here to visit their website.
