The SOAP RingSCRIPTURE

Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

OBSERVATION

Throughout the whole story of creation, God speaks things into existence, he says “Let there be light” and there is light (Genesis 1:14) and he tells the land to produce living creatures according to its kind (Genesis 1:24) but when it comes to man, he takes the time to form man out of the dust of the earth. But he doesn’t just throw together stuff to make man, he said “Let us make man after our own image” (Genesis 1:26), which means that we are walking, talking, flesh and bone representations of God.

APPLICATION

Have you ever looked in the mirror and not liked what you see? Your hair’s too curly or your nose is too flat or your thighs have more jiggle than you want… You pick yourself a part, finding flaws at every turn… Have you ever stopped to think that you are dishonoring God when you tear yourself down?

He says that we were made in his image, Psalm 139:14 (NIV) says “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” If you believe even one portion of the Bible to be true, then you have to believe that you are wonderfully and fearfully made, so stop tearing yourself down.

When you feel yourself thinking negative thoughts, look at yourself in the mirror and know that you were created by the hand of God, in his image!

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for creating me in your image. Thank you for the things about me that are unique, because these are the things that make me beautiful. And, Lord, as I go through my day and self doubt starts to creep in, help me to remember that I am your creation, beautifully, wonderfully and fearfully made. Amen.

WHAT IS BIBLE IN 90 DAYS?

Bible in 90 Days or #B90Days is a Bible reading plan hosted by Amy at Mom’s Toolbox. It provides an opportunity for a community of women to support each other as they read through the Bible in 90 days.

This session of #B90Days runs from 20 August thru 17 November and as a mentor (Group 34, holla) , my job will be to encourage readers through prayer, words of support on Twitter and via our accountability group. I’ll also be posting words of encouragement here on my blog, so stay tuned for those.

There’ll be weekly Twitter parties, using the hashtag #B90Days, so make sure you follow @MomsToolbox. You can also follow along and keep up with the daily reading plans by liking Mom’s Toolbox on Facebook.

WHAT IS SOAP?

Although this is a Bible reading plan and not a Bible study per se, Amy does recommend that participants use SOAP for guidance through the 90 day reading session as it helps with the understanding and application of the scriptures to our daily lives.

SOAP is an acrostic that stands for:

Scripture
Observation
Application
Prayer
