ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.

THE CURATOR

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Autumn (Study of Mery Laurent)

Autumn {Study of Mery Laurent}

Kim chose this image because “I thought I’d pick an autumn themed piece and once again, I’m drawn to an impressionist.  I love that you could embrace the rich browns with ruffles, feathers or fur or the dancing flowers in the background (wallpaper, sky, water?).”
What will you wear? I can’t wait to see.

MY LOOK

Floral Blouse Boyfriend Jeans Clogs {living outside the stacks}

I knew as soon as I saw the inspiration piece that I was gonna wear this top. The colors, the print, the shape of the blouse, everything about it mimics the dress in the inspiration piece. And the rest of the outfit just fell into place because you can never go wrong with jeans…

One of the things I really like about Nickel and Suede earrings is that you can wear them with everything. I tend not to go matchy matchy when I wear them {which is almost all the time}. The heather color is the perfect foil to the browns, blacks, and blues in the top.

When I initially saw this top on QVC, I was hesitant about purchasing it. Button down blouses are not my friend. I have a big chest. But I loooooved the print and decided to give it a try. I’m so happy I did. Honestly, I could’ve gone down a size in the top, but I was accounting for my chest. I added the tulle extender because I thought it added a bit of playfulness to the blouse.

You’ve seen these boyfriend jeans and clogs on this blog so many times, that you can basically consider it my uniform. When I’m trying something new on top, I know that those two pieces will make me feel comfortable and in control. Weird, I know, but whenever I try something out of my comfort zone, I need a safety.

Do you have anything in your closet that you consider a safety?
