As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.
Hi, how are things in your living room? Our living room has transitioned from place to watch TV to place to sleep when we get tired of sleeping in our bedrooms. OK. It’s me. I’m crashing on the sofa. Everyone else is still maintaining some sense of decency and sleeping in their bedrooms.
ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.
THE CURATOR
This week’s image was chosen by Kim with a suggestion from Mike.
INSPIRATION ART WORK
This image was suggested by long-time Style Imitating Art participant, Mike. He was “…watching a lecture on painting this morning and one of my favorite artists was mentioned; Edward Hopper. I immediately thought of his painting, “Carolina Morning”, which, given our current situation (physical distancing), would be perfect for an SIA challenge. The image itself looks isolating but seems serene at the same time. There’s a lot of color to work with here too.”
STYLING IDEAS
There are so many options here: those shades of red are intense. And I see creams, browns, with hints of yellow and green. What ideas do you have? Please share in the comments.
MY OUTFIT
I was so excited when I first saw the inspiration image. The colors just spoke to me. I think it’s because the colors are so intense and saturated. But there’s also something soft and muted there too. And we all know I’m a big fan of neutral colors with pops of bold.
I thought the color and tie-dye pattern in my top mimicked the brush along the porch and the walls of the house. My earrings, while more of a persimmon color than a red, kind of remind me of the lady’s dress with its shape and texture. The blue of the sky is reflected in my jeggings and Mary Janes.
