Style Imitating Art: Fiber Arts

As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Hi, how was your weekend? Ours started off bumpy but ended quiet enough. Bleu woke me up early Saturday morning, whimpering because of the storms. She’s terrified of thunder. After things settled down, she slept all day long while I drank even more coffee than usual. LOL

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by Kim at Fierce Fashion Blog.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Fiber Art Is

Damunt de tu només les flors by Carles Delclaux Is

Kim chose this fabric art because she “…like{s} the use of hearts, as they are evocative of Valentine’s day.  I think the small swatches of plaid are fun, too.” You can find out more about the art work here.

MY OUTFIT

Daenel T {living outside the stacks} Purple Logo Dress and Black Ankle Boots

I chose to wear this dress for this week’s challenge because of all the shades of purple in the dress. And the chiffon on the hem is curvy like the woman’s body in the inspiration piece.

I saw this dress on QVC and was immediately smitten. The tie-dye, the flounce, and, most importantly, the POCKETS!!!! And it’s in my favorite shade of purple.

The material is a sweater knit, but incredibly light weight, which makes it cozy enough for cooler weather but light enough for warm weather. Even though I’ve paired my dress with a maxi cardigan, I could easily have chosen to wear a dark denim or faux leather jacket to make it a little more edgy.

In keeping with the eclectic vibe of the dress, I chose to wear my moto boots.

I kept my jewelry relatively simple since the dress has so much going on… A pair of smoky quartz leather earrings and a chain link necklace {that also works as a lanyard}.

Can you tell I’m wearing purple lipstick as well? I’ve really been getting into makeup lately. My sister talked me into signing up for BoxyCharm a few months ago, and I’m having so much fun with the different makeup palettes.

Look at that chiffon hem!! Fun, right?

STYLING IDEAS

Kim already mentioned the fun little plaid swatches, but look at all of those hearts! They’re in fiery oranges and reds. And purples. Do you see them? If you’re not into the hearts, you can play up the leaves, the stripes, and the abstract shapes. What about colors? Hmmm, purple and red are intense together. They make me think love and passion. The golds and lavenders are soft and feminine. And I think the blues are happy. So think about the mood you want to evoke. If it’s cold and rainy, do you want to wear bright and happy colors to offset the dreariness?
