Style Imitating Art: Girl with the Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer

As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.

Welcome to Style Imitating Art. I hope your visit means you’re planning to join us, because we’d definitely love to have you…

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Terri {Meadow Tree Style}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10 PM Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by Terri because she likes Vermeer.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

MY CO-HOSTS

Don’t forget to visit my cohosts, Salazar {14 Shades of Grey} and Terri {Meadow Tree Style}, to see their interpretations. And make sure you visit Meadow Tree Style on Wednesday, 13 January to see other outfits inspired by this week’s inspiration piece.

MY OUTFIT

Hello and welcome to the first Style Imitating Art of 2021. How are things in your area? We woke up this morning to “Southern snow“, a little dusting that caused all of Cenla to shut down. I’m not complaining though. It’s cold out and I’d rather stay in my house with an unlimited supply of hot coffee…I know I used to live in Pennsylvania, but I was not meant for cold weather.

I had originally planned to wear an outfit centered around a string of vintage faux pearl necklaces that I have hanging in my closet, but then I remembered this funky denim jacket and woven blouse {you’ve seen this top on the blog before, see here} and had an Aha! moment. Instead of going the traditional route, why not focus on fabric? Everything came together relatively easily from there. The blues in my earrings, my top, and my cami are very similar, as are the golds, browns, and creams. And black makes the perfect anchor color.

Despite my expression, I wasn’t angry. I’ve been told I have a bad case of RBF, I guess we all get to see it now. And, for the record, that was the “smiliest” of them. LOLOLOLOL
