As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by me.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Bell, C. (1973, January 01). Gumball II, 1973 – Charles Bell.

I chose this image because it reminds me of being a child and begging my mom for a quarter so I could get some gum then hoping that I wouldn’t get the dreaded gumball. Did you have a favorite flavor?

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

This will be our last Style Imitating Art for 2020. I know… This is the time that we like to take time to relax and hang out with friends and family and, well, just enjoy the season. And given what 2020 has been, I think we could all use a bit of a break to decompress, don’t you? And, speaking of taking a break, did you notice that we are now two?

Kim has decided to step back from her co-hosting duties to focus on her health and settle in her new home. So that means that Salazar and I are looking for a new cohost… If you’re interested in art and fashion, and can keep to a regular posting schedule, contact us via email before the New Year.

MY COHOST

Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}

Salazar wrote that she “…chose my colorful scarf to reflect the colors of the gumballs, and the rest of the outfit I kept in simple shades of white and brown to mimic the background and the rusty red tops of the gumball machines. I also added some fruit brooches and pins for more colors and as a nod to the gumball flavors (they do come in apple and watermelon, right?).” Even if they don’t come in apple or watermelon, I accept the interpretation because OH MY WOW! Does Salazar not have the best brooch collection ever!!!!

MY OUTFIT

Did you notice I’m wearing my glasses? I almost never wear them in my pictures because I cannot figure out how to get rid of the stupid glare, but I had to wear them this week. The print and the color kind of mimic the nuts in the candy machine in the background {and, to be honest, so do my freckles}. Anyway, I’d totally forgotten about those machines sometimes having nuts in them. I’m guessing this was prior to peanut allergy awareness?

I wish the polka dots on my sweater were reversed. I kinda feel a little bit like a Lady Bug in this sweater. That’s probably why I don’t wear it very often, but I’m certain that I bought it for a reason. Probably to wear with a pair of leggings or something when hanging around the house. I’m always a little chilly, so I stock up on sweaters whenever I can…

Oh, wait, I remember now. I was going through this whole polka dot phase and started buying a ton of polka dot tops {which explains this and this Pinterest board}.

Although we won’t be posting anymore Style Imitating Art challenges until 2021, I hope you’ll keep coming back to see what else I’m wearing. I promise it won’t all be jeans and pajamas!

MY CO-HOST

Make sure you stop by and visit my co-host, 14 Shades of Grey. You’ll definitely want to see her interpretation as well.
