Welcome to the first Style Imitating Art of 2020! I’m so happy to have you here. If you’re a regular, you’ll notice a few changes… I’ve created a new badge. I wanted something eye catching and complimentary to my blog. I created it using one of the templates available at PicMonkey. I’ve also added a new STYLING IDEAS section beneath the Inspiration Art Work area. I plan to use this section to give you styling ideas. You don’t have to follow my suggestions, I just thought it’d be fun to share thoughts on how to interpret the inspiration piece.

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

STYLING IDEAS

I chose this snuff box because I wanted to try something different. Whenever I pick inspiration pieces, I tend to either go for bold colors or neutral prints. But this black and white? Well, it seems simple at first glance, but there really are a lot of layers.

There are the colors: coral, gold, black, and white {you can even use the gray from the background as a color choice}. But there are also different textures. These textures can be reflected in fabrics such as silk or tweed. Now, think about prints. You can go with solids or houndstooth. There really are a lot of options.

My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.
