Welcome to another week of Style Imitating Art, where we draw our style inspiration from works of art. This week’s selection was curated by Salazar from 14 Shades of Grey.

STYLE IMITATING ART INSPIRATION

Large Dish with Cherry Blossoms

Large Dish with Cherry Blossoms, The Met, circa 1690-1720s, Japan {public domain}

Salazar selected the inspiration piece for this round of Style Imitating Art. The past few selections have been paintings, so Salazar chose something totally different – a large dish. This is a Japanese “Nabeshima” dish and is from The Met’s public domain collection. In explaining her choice, Salazar wrote: “The design is both bold and delicate, and the colors are spring-appropriate.” I agree, it’s a beautiful piece that is open to so much interpretation.

MY LOOK

So, originally, I’d decided to go with this floral and striped print blouse and pale pink pants until I saw the photos. Then I was like Oh, no, Honey, that is not a good look on you. I’ve often thought that my coloring tended more towards Bart Simpson, but now I’m thinking those pale pink pants are a little too nude to be worn in public so a change was in order…

But I did want to show my shoes because mesh and patent oxfords, y’all!

My second attempt…

I don’t know why I didn’t just go with jeans in the first place.

I didn’t purchase this blouse with this prompt in mind. It was serendipity. I was actually looking for a solid blouse to wear with a pair of dark floral ankle pants that have been hanging in my closet forever, when I stumbled across this little cutie. And, since it was on sale, I figured why not? Especially since I didn’t find the solid top that I was looking for {really, why can’t I find a solid top in a luscious color like sunburst orange or hot pink?} And the bag has been sitting in my closet for years. I bought it when patchwork bags were in style and, well, I ended up not carrying it because I don’t really wear anything that “goes with” pink, snake print, gray, camel, and silver patchwork. But I bought and kept the bag anyway. Hmmmm… Maybe I should’ve used it for this post?
