You guys, I’m so excited to announce that I’m the new co-host for Style Imitating Art! I’ll be joining Jen from Librarian for Life and Style and Salazar from 14 Shades of Grey  as we use pieces of art to inspire our wardrobes.

I know there are some folks who’re new to my blog, so I thought I’d take this time to introduce myself. My name is Daenel and I’m an academic librarian at a local university. When I’m not doing the librarian thing, I’m chugging coffee and snapping {with my camera}. I’ve always been interested in clothes. And shoes. And handbags. I would describe my style as eclectic. I grew up in Italy, so I have a deep appreciation for colors and patterns. My fashion mantra: “If you see it together in nature, you can see it together on my body.”

Again, I’m incredibly excited that Jen and Salazar invited me to co-host Style Imitating Art with them.

STYLE IMITATING ART INSPIRATION

Jen selected the inspiration piece for today’s Style Imitating Art. Isn’t it beautiful? I love the muted colors – they’re neutral but kinda bold too, if that makes sense. I couldn’t tell if the courtesan is putting on lipstick or if she’s just holding her bejeweled fingers to her lips in a pensive manner… Either way, the image is interesting.

MY LOOK

I decided to play up the olives, browns, and blues from the image and then pop everything with a brick red. Notice my bracelet and my lips. And the hair. Definitely the hair – there are shades of burgundy, blue, lavender, brown, and gold. Yes! I’m just all colorful.

I’m a big fan of the dress over jeans look. I’ve been doing it for years. Normally, I would go with a more substantial fabric for this look, but I wanted to not suck in keep things light and breezy.

I even coordinated my makeup to the colors in the art piece. Normally, I stick to neutrals, but I really wanted to bring in that blue, so I thought, hey, why not? Is this a makeup look I’d wear on a regular basis? Hmmmm, I think so. I kinda like it. And with that brick red lip color? Absolutely!

And be prepared to see that bag a lot. It’s been in my closet for years, and I recently discovered how flexible/neutral it is.
