ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was selected by Kim from Fierce Fashion Blog. Kim is a fifty something style blogger with an eye for color and texture. Please join us in welcoming her.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Personnages Aux Chevaux 1935 by Marcelle Cahn

Personnages aux chevaux by Marcelle Cahn, 1935. Fair Use.

Kim chose this image because she likes “…he vivid color palette, the equestrian theme and even the emphasized eyes.he vivid color palette, the equestrian theme and even the emphasized eyes.”

I see so much inspiration here. Beyond the bold colors, there’s the opportunity for graphic prints, and color blocking.

What do you think you’ll wear? I can’t wait to see.

MY LOOK

Style Imitating Art {living outside the stacks}

I bought this sweater a few years ago, but I didn’t think I’d ever get the chance to wear it here in Louisiana. But we had a couple of cool {honestly, downright cold} days so I got to wear it again…

I like that it’s a oversized, asymmetrical, and funky with the side zipper.

And these boots are just fun and sexy, right?

Coat – Similar | Earrings – Nickel & Suede | Sweater – Similar | Lace Extender – Similar | Leggings – Similar | Boots – Exact

The reason I chose this outfit is because the burnt orange color of the sweater is very similar to the color of the horse in the painting. When I first put on the coat, I thought it matched the background in the picture – not sure why I saw olive instead of that turquoise-y blue. I layered the extender under my sweater because I thought it added a bit of visual interest.
