ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by me.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Playing Cards by Clementine Hunter

Kim chose Clementine Hunter’s oil painting because she “…think(s) it looks fun, summery and the cards almost look like fans.”

In my Style Imitating Art inspiration post, I shared a few images from my visit to the Melrose Plantation where Clementine Hunter lived, worked, and painted. Here are a few more:

MY OUTFIT

So it seems that 2020 just won’t let up. How many of y’all are in the path of the storms. Yeah, us too. Right now, our college will be open on Monday, but we’re watching the weather to see what our plans will be for the rest of the week. Seriously, how do we even?

Yellow Floral Top – Similar |Earrings – Nickel and Suede | Jeggings – Similar | Flat Leather Sandals – Similar

When I first started planning my outfit for today’s post, I’d planned to focus on the red and black in the painting because those are colors I rarely wear. However, as I started putting the outfit together, it just didn’t feel right. I know that challenges are supposed to force us out of our comfort zones, but there are days when I just know something isn’t going to work. So, I pulled out this yellow baby doll/peasant top and instantly felt more like myself. I did, however, take a leap with the jeggings.

While I do wear leggings, I rarely pair them with sandals. Sometimes, leggings and jeggings look a bit too much like tights for me. But these jeggings by Laurie Felt feel a bit more like pants, with the slightly wider ankle opening. The darker wash also make them a little bit dressier, so these could easily be worn to work on a casual Friday.

THE CO-HOSTS

Make sure you stop by and visit my co-hosts at 14 Shades of Grey, and Fierce Fashion Blog. You’ll definitely want to see their interpretations as well.

Next week’s inspiration piece will be posted on Monday, 31 August. Send a picture of your Style Imitating Art inspired outfit to Salazar at 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com by Tuesday, 8 September and she’ll share the submissions on her blog on Wednesday, 9 September.

You don’t have to have a blog to join, you can share your images on Instagram as well! Just tag Kim, Salazar, and me or use the hashtag #StyleImitatingArt so we know you’re there. We’d love to see how you interpret the inspiration piece.

Now go play in your closet,
