ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image is curated by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}. Salazar is “…a stagnating packet of crisps {context} trying to change by adding more colors to my wardrobe and my life.”

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Portrait of Comtesse d'Haussonville

Portrait of Comtesse d’Haussonville

Portrait of Comtesse d’Haussonville is an 1845 oil on canvas painting by the French Neoclassical artist Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. Salazar chose this image because she’s “…always loved Ingres’s portraits for the way he captured the exquisite textures of different fabrics, and this one is no different.”

There are so many beautiful muted colors in this image, don’t you think? I can’t wait to rummage through my closet. I know I have something in mustard and blue. And, we know I have cream and pink.

What will you wear? I can’t wait to see.

MY LOOK

Blue Eyelet Top Gray Ankle Pants Blue Mary Janes {living outside the stacks}

Hi, I hope you had a great weekend. My weekend was pretty much like every other weekend I’ve had lately – I did nothing. I came home early on Friday with a migraine. I think it’s a combination of stress and hormones and the need for a true blue get out of dodge vacation. I can still feel the headache lingering at the corner of my brain. Hopefully, it’ll fade as the day goes on.

I was excited about today’s outfit because the colors are not ones I’d usually wear together – too many neutrals at once. Oddly enough though, I felt pretty comfortable and a lot like myself.

I bought that eyelet top a few seasons ago but I rarely wear it. I mean, is it a summer top or a fall top? Eyelet with long sleeves kinda confuses me, but I really liked the top… I’ve decided that it’s a transitional piece because the material makes it work for warmer days, while the color and long sleeves work for cooler mornings.

These ankle pants somehow ended up in The Hubs closet so I totally forgot about them. Then, while he was packing, he tossed them at me and I was like “Ohhhhhh, yeah!” I love love love ankle pants. They can be either casual or dressy, depending upon how they’re worn. And they’re great for showing off a cute pair of shoes.

And, speaking of shoes, I big puffy heart Mary Janes. That is all.
